Yes, I was thinking it felt like a wimpier Imagine Dragons. There's something very blocky and rigid about that sound that just doesn't sit right with me. Incredible comeback though, it's wild that it shot up the charts like it did.Kevin Davis wrote:Hozier always felt a bit too close to that early 2010's Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, etc. sound for my tastes. I have a reflexive dislike of stuff that flirts with that sound -- never really cared for the music to begin with, but some unpleasant memories push it over the edge.

Anyone who hears Imagine Dragons in Hozier, give me your drugs. I want to shelve them.

I'm not saying they sound identical or anything. But they trigger a similar part of my brain and ultimately I find myself being put off by them for similar reasons.Ello Sailor wrote:Anyone who hears Imagine Dragons in Hozier, give me your drugs
I mean, I don't really think Imagine Dragons and Katy Perry sound super similar either, but ultimately it's a similar reflex that informs my response to both of them. There's just something about that over-pumped, aggressively vanilla sound from the early 2010's that all kind of feels like one thing to me. Not perfect or fair perhaps, but there it is.

Liking the song is not a prerequisite for acknowledging that it is in fact the song of the summer 2024.Jorge wrote:Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" beats it in both airplay and quality

Shut the fuck up, Bammer. No one cares what your dumbass has to say about anything, much less the coveted song of the summer.

I don't love it. I'm saying it gets by on the bassline.
