Twister(s) (1996, 2024)

Post by Ensign9 »

Saw Twisters yesterday -- it hits some of the same nostalgia notes, in terms of structure and tone, that Top Gun Maverick did but is much less of a sequel-type story, and I'm not sure that was a great choice. That said, we really enjoyed it!
Spoiler: show
My main issue is that the lack of any direct tie-back to Twister feels like a big missed opportunity. Maura Tierney was solid but using Helen Hunt instead feels like it would have been the layup of all layups. The director said, in an interview, that it wouldn't have felt right to have Hunt's character suddenly become a homebody on a farm. Agreed...so rewrite the part, dude! Add Hunt as an active tornado chaser, throw a picture of Bill Paxton on her mantle, and call it a day.

I’ve never heard the word “twisters” without the word “tiddy” before. That’s a movie with potential.

I really enjoyed this. It was a throwback. Two likable leads. Simple, fun, stupid, sweet. Everything you'd want in a summer movie.
