All the cool musicians seem to support Democratic candidates and values while the Republicans serve up Kid Rock and Ted Nugent.

Has the Republican side of politics ever attracted the support of a musician you like or admire?

The few conservative modern musicians have the good taste not to endorse a Republican. I like to think that most liberal musicians would equally avoid something as cringy as endorsing a politician, unless they are some fringe lunatic communist or something cool and edgy.

I find it curious that you picked the two sober guys as possible republicans.

I think a lot of sober people aren’t republicans at all, but have fully embraced the “only responsible for my own shit” lifestyle such that their unwillingness to engage any sort of enabling behavior gets pegged as non-empathetic, and therefore they must be conservative.

I’ve seen this quite a lot — both myself, and with quite a few other sober people I know. This exchange helped me crystallize it a bit.

It's not that deep. They're Southern country-adjacent (yes, bluegrass counts) musicians.

Not everything has to be about you/your sobriety. That narcissistic streak is getting away on you again, broseph.
