The new Wand record is a bit iffy but the second last track High Time scratches a particular itch.

Listening to the full album now and it is really great. One of the most compelling and adventurous albums I've heard all year
Jorge wrote:The new Willow Smith track is wild, I really like it. Cool time changes and interesting jazz chords that together sound a bit like In Rainbows-era Radiohead, at least the verses. The chorus is more straightforward and poppy.

This thread made me feel like I walked into Championship Vinyl and got laughed out the door.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new Gillian Welch record. There's drums on the first track which is a pretty big departure for her two masterpieces (Time the Revelator and The Harrow and the Harvest). If you think Pearl Jam takes a long time between records, it's been something like 13 years since Gillian Welch has put out original material.

That makes me so happy! All of Tzur's album's on ECM -- Here Be Dragons (2020), Isabela (2022), and My Prophet -- are just beautiful, all among my favorite jazz releases of not only the current decade but of the past 20 years. The sax tone, the quartet interplay, Tzur's knack for melody, the atmosphere of the records (especially Dragons) -- all just land right in the sweet spot for me.epilogue wrote:This record is everything to me right now.![]()
Thank you so much for this rec.

Late to the party and only about halfway through it, but this is excellent.dad wrote:i figure someone here will be into this. it's by Cindy Lee, the alter-ego of Patrick Flegel, who used to be in a band called Women...kinda noise rock. Maybe someone here has heard of them...our Canadian friends? This album is called Diamond Jubilee, and it's only available by going here or via Youtube (below), except on YT it's not broken up into tracks. It's about 2 hours long, and I'm only a handful of songs in, but so far it's good. Very 60s sound to it. You can download the wav files (32 songs) for a donation, or listen for free like I am, I guess. You can read more about it here - yes, I still read pitchfork.

Randomly heard this tune Rat Race by Emilee South on the drive home today. Never heard of her before but the song is an absolute banger. Turns out she's a Melbourne lass who just released her album "Luxury".
Immediately grabbed it on Bandcamp. Seriously loving it 3 songs in.

Really enjoying Fanning Dempsey National Park released last week.
For non-Aussies, these two gentlemen were/are the lead singers of Powderfinger and Something For Kate respectively - two of the best Aussie bands to come out of the Triple J golden era of the late 90's.
This album has them connecting over their love of late 70's/early 80's synth-pop - new ground for both of them in terms of instrumentation but still with their knack for melody and great lyrics.
The lead single 'Disconnect' is clearly inspired by Bowie's Modern Love, while my current fave 'Born Expecting' is reminicent of Split Enz

I found the first single pretty underwhelming but there's some good stuff on the record.

Love his production but he annoys me. Vince Staples kills his guest spot, obviously. It feels like this could grow on me.

Gonna check this out as well. Have tix to see these 2 yobbos in November. I assume they will have to dig into their own respective back catalogues to pad a show out - what a total bummer...ridleybradout wrote:Really enjoying Fanning Dempsey National Park released last week.

I'd hope they will do something more interesting and play each other's songs, or play some 70's/80's covers like they did during lockdown. Dempsey is a bit like Vedder in that almost anything he covers is enhanced by his voice and made his ownHiggs wrote: Gonna check this out as well. Have tix to see these 2 yobbos in November.
