over three months in, and I still think this is the most accessible to non PJ fans. have really been keying into the the drum crescendo 2:52 - 2:57, and this is nicely teased by the shorter fill @ 2:33.
such a beautiful, soaring track. The songs on this record make me scratch my head: this band wrote Lightning Bolt? it's night and day to me.

Re: Won't Tell
Same. What I tell myself is that for various life reasons, they were fairly checked out from being rock musicians at that time, and BO'B wasn't just aiding and abetting that- he was actively providing a saccharin alternative to Stone's "arranging" with his syrupy piano schlock and eliminating anything mysterious from songs (other than the precious Pendulum).DDWJMUVW wrote:over three months in, and I still think this is the most accessible to non PJ fans. have really been keying into the the drum crescendo 2:52 - 2:57, and this is nicely teased by the shorter fill @ 2:33.

I should also add, when Lightning Bolt came out, I thought it was great. I had a new baby and it felt like a warm blanket for me in my days of stress. It's only in hindsight where I can see the progression from it to Gigaton (losing the BO'B baggage was huge) and then from Gigaton to DM (where they had a producer that actively pushed them and was explicitly focused on finding their classic sound). I don't care what they come out with in the future, though I desperately want an official Stray Cats. We are in pure gravy territory.

Doctored. There's a meme generator making its rounds. I saw one with Vs. on it yesterday.lvc wrote:Is that real or doctored? Backspacer is much better than Lightning Bolt, imo

This one should get played more this cycle. It's by far the best track for non-Jamily listeners on the album.

so, i really like this song, and it's probably one of my favorites on the album. but i don't think that it translates well live. in fact, it's kind of a snoozer to those somewhat unfamiliar with it (and let there be no mistake, a lot of people that go to these shows now are not as familiar with the new stuff as people on this board).

I really like this song, but the chorus would also make perfect sense performed by a late 90s boy band.

The autotune and loud production has really diminished the staying power for this one

Can’t speak for those fans unfamiliar with it, but it was a highlight for me in Vancouver. Jeff’s base sounded huge. Thought it sounded great!Chris_H_2 wrote:so, i really like this song, and it's probably one of my favorites on the album. but i don't think that it translates well live. in fact, it's kind of a snoozer to those somewhat unfamiliar with it (and let there be no mistake, a lot of people that go to these shows now are not as familiar with the new stuff as people on this board).

the start of this song is one of just a handful of places where the loudness is an actual isssue for me. i settle in, but it is jarringMonkey_Driven wrote:The autotune and loud production has really diminished the staying power for this one
