Satan's Bed as appearing on Vitalogy is one of my favorite studio tracks in the catalog. I've never loved a live version on a bootleg, but I enjoyed seeing it when they played it in Lexington in 2016. I guess I enjoyed it at PJ20 but I don't remember that as well.Tj wrote:I'm not sure. In Climate Pledge in the moment this was a blast. I could tell it wasn't perfect but it was good honest entertainment. I think the boot concept changes things. Imagine if boots of every Hendrix show were available. I think alot is being made about nothing.
I agree about the bootleg effect. 1) It's not like we're getting the cream of the crop. We're getting the whole acreage and some of the corn is bound to have worms in it. 2) The mix on the bootlegs isn't even what I'd call faithful to the sound of the band anymore. For over a decade it's sounded like they fired Stone because he's mixed so low/anemic.
Sub question: Is it in fact fair to criticize a formerly great song for it's latter-day performance sins? Is it better to burn out than to fade away?
