As far as bribes go, it's far too little to make a dent. Republicans are too stingy in doling out bribes to their constituents, because they'd rather the money go into their own pockets. They should be more like Democrats when it comes to bribes. Waving a magic money wand and canceling school debt is a good example of good bribery. It's not your money, so spend it!

Re: The All-Inclusive Kamala Harris thread
Skin-in-the-game is a concept necessary to any functioning democracy, yet one completely lost on the modern rabble brainwashed into thinking "the more votes, the more gooder democracy is". That said, the argument that parents have more skin in the game seems pretty unfounded.

You're conflating the speaker with the idea (a classic McP move).Peeps wrote:E.H. Ruddock wrote:Are you really saying you think people without kids shouldn’t have as much voting power as those with kids?
if people with kids had a higher stake in things and only made selfish choices to benefit their kids we would have free lunch programs, free after school care, medical care for children etc...instead republicans vote to take away these things or not fund them
Instead reacting to Vance having said it, think it through. How do things like like Medicare and Social Security work (or most any government social spending really)? Though not founded on this idea, in practice they are legal pyramid schemes. Because of the way government amasses debt basically all spending is. These systems require future taxpayers to fund both debt and present obligations. Who are these future taxpayers and why should they not have an outsized say in the future given it's they who are obligated to pay for it when we are all in our senior living pods eating ze bugs?

If you're going to give voting power to parents b/c their producing extra taxpayers, why not eliminate the 15th Amendment and isolate voting rights amongst the landowners too?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Producing taxpayers that will ultimately need more produced to take care of them. How about we reward the childless with extra votes for not overpopulating the system?

But would it be so bad if people had to pass a basic civics test or get a high school (or equivalent) degree before they could vote?

Anyway …. The whole problem with the world is overpopulation and people having more kids than they can effectively care and provide for.
Climate change, hunger, gang violence. All of it.

Re: The All-Inclusive Kamala Harris thread
I think someone could make a solid case that if you cannot read the choices on the ballot then you should not be allowed to vote for one of them. Why, specifically, is that so bad? Is not an informed electorate an implicit requirement of a constitutional republic? What is the minimum threshold there if not being able to read the ballot when voting?spike wrote:Should an illiterate adult who works and pays taxes not be allowed to vote?Bi_3 wrote:But what would be so fundamentally wrong with making sure people can read what they are voting for?spike wrote:captain "think it through" ladies and gentlemenBi_3 wrote:Rank 'em and I'll point to my favs.B wrote:Are there any other Jim Crow Era laws you'd like to reinstate?Bi_3 wrote:I'm not walking into this "that's racist" trap.B wrote:If you're going to give voting power to parents b/c their producing extra taxpayers, why not eliminate the 15th Amendment and isolate voting rights amongst the landowners too?

Catholics in ireland for centuries were not allowed own land, or vote, or even have schools in the native irish language and it took centuries to change that, so you werent allowed have a school to learn and and even after all that changed, the last people that became elegible to vote, were women.Bi_3 wrote:I think someone could make a solid case that if you cannot read the choices on the ballot then you should not be allowed to vote for one of them. What makes a person eligible to vote? Their education or their earnings? Or do you need a little of both?

Re: The All-Inclusive Kamala Harris thread
What if a person can't read, but they watched all this coverage on television, and they have a trusted friend to help them pick their candidates? In NC, you're allowed to bring a relative to help you vote. Or maybe they don't need help, because they've seen their candidate's name enough that they recognize it on the paper? Or is it just that a person who can't read is too stupid to vote?
