A Quiet Place: Day One

Post by Ensign9 »

This is excellent. I was impressed with the direction and cinematography most of all. There is nothing terribly inventive or revolutionary relative to the first two but it’s a very solid movie worth your time.

I love the first two, I generally dislike horror franchises but if this becomes 3 great movies I'll be very happy

I was excited by the premise for this movie. How enticing to think what day 1 of this brutal invasion would've been like. All the chaos! Everybody freaking out! So many opportunities to see some wild, exciting shit, people tearing each other apart, authorities losing control, society completely collapsing! How long does it take for them to figure out that the monsters are drawn to sound? How do they figure it out? It would be so interesting to see a city like New York get fully decimated. It could've been a thrilling monster/disaster movie. That's what I expected, and tbh what the trailers sold us. Instead we get about 2 minutes of that, and then Lupita Nyongo passes out, and then when she awakes it's just A Quiet Place again. There are some okay moments but it is mostly very boring, echoes of the first two movies but worse. A lot of blatant swings at poignancy, sentimental moments that feel completely hollow. Some scenes are so corny I nearly gave myself an aneurysm rolling my eyes so hard. Not good. Impressive acting by the cat, though. 5/10

this movie was so disappointing
the first two were so good, especially the first one
the new one is boring, tries to be deep and fails totally
the characters are not interesting and that fuckin cat made it even worse

What if it started to meow loudly, or hiss, or did that cat moaning thing? Too risky!

You also have to feed it when food is scarce.

I suppose you could also eat it too.

The sound mixing was incredible irritating. The dialogue was so so quiet and whispered and then it would be shrieking loud chaos and music that I just gave up on hearing the dialogue so I could keep the volume reasonable for the loud parts. Not that the dialogue I heard was any good.

And people figured out and adapted to the whole "be quiet" thing unbelievably quickly.

And wouldn't that pizza be spoiled by the time you got to it?

And was the cat actually mute? How did it not hiss and get itself killed?

And how on earth are we supposed to believe that a military helicopter with a 50 cal machine gun couldn't mow down these creatures like wheat? Especially since they have to open their heads to hear.

And so many tears. They must have had to keep a lot of Evian on set to keep everyone hydrated.

Agreed.

I might like it most of the trilogy, personally. I was really surprised by how good it was.
