God that was awesome. Loved it. And nice to hear the drummer giving the Vitalogy version proper respect.

The last link in this thread worked for me. The first link I followed from the Soundgarden FB page and it worked.

I'd been mistaking the 'can't play messages from our sponsers in your country' for 'can't play this video in your country'

This was good. I don't listen to enough new soundgarden to know, but it sounds to me like chris cornells voice sounds much the same as his voice back in the day, way more than eddie anyway. The banjo makes it sound like a sad hillbilly song.

He looks like jafar.

I do not like that fleet foxes dudes voice. Maybe its cause its cause im used to the baritone lol. The musics nice though, i liked the intro. Oh it goes to shit at the end though.

(As an aside i found a recent version to listen to after this and mikes solo in worcester 1 is different than usual and pretty cool.)

Both clips were pleasant enough but don't require a repeat listen. This is a great idea for the show though and it's good to see the band reflected positively by other musos

I liked that one more than Footsteps specifically because his voice is so different. It gave the song a different color and attitude, and it made it feel "new" in a way that just some other dude with a low register wouldn't.

I also like the laidback tempo, the fuzzy guitar in the verses, and the sloppiness. But I do worry that those guys need to eat more.

Yeah it was a cool version, i just don't like that dudes voice much. I don't hate it or anything, its just kinda...high.

I wonder what kind of performances we'd get from pj if they just stood still and played...less flailing....i'm looking at you vedder. Oh how i wish they'd do a 'from the basement' or something akin to that.

Pecknold is one of my favorite singers in the business but I think his voice kind of shrinks under the weight of a song like this--or maybe it was just the arrangement, I don't know, but something about it just felt rote. I liked Cornell's performance better but would ultimately say that he similarly failed to get to the heart of the song in the way that I know both of these singers are capable. There was also something that just felt off musically about both performances, like they just sort of lazily glossed over certain musical elements of the songs in a way that felt more like fudging than interpretive liberty--Pecknold's guitarist, for instance, didn't move up to that "C" bass note during the last bars of the "Corduroy" intro, and a few times during the chorus parts to "Footsteps" Cornell took off into a kind of melodic limbo that he didn't seem entirely comfortable navigating. Both performances were cool and I'm glad they happened; in a way a cover version is always a tribute to the original artist's songwriting, and as someone who has been affected by this songwriting for most of his life I am happy to see it being paid homage to in a manner that extends beyond Staind. But neither performance gave me that jolt of enlightenment I get when I hear an artist perfectly adapt another artist's song to suit his or her own style--a Nina Simone doing "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues," for instance, or Brad Mehldau doing "Martha My Dear."

I just about to say you nailed the Pecknold performance. He didn't really commit to the song and struggled to get the melody under control. It was pleasant enough but he can do so much more. And the noise segment just felt too contrived.
