Room at the Top (Petty cover) - Ed "Solo"

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Well?

Eh. I guess this is just where Ed is now with his solo stuff. It's fine.

A good cover of a good song that I don’t care to listen to very often. I like the performance.

Looking back at this era when I’m 60, I’ll hear this some time and think I’ve never heard it before. But I bet it’ll be effective on television.

One of my favorite petty songs. So, always glad to hear ed sing. Not as tender as pettys version.

Pretty certain this is just a mixed up version from the live show at YouTube theater couple years ago

This is where im at. I struggle to get thru this one and Save It For Later. Neither is offensive but they really do nothing for me.

His emulation rings quite hollow. He can adore the artist or piece but it simply does not work, this is a lot of Vedder outside The Who.

 So frustrating because it's not like we're asking for the moon. Just let it sound like a band in a room, and stop annunciating so much (he made good headway on this last one with Dark Matter).
The annunciation is a real crutch now IMO.

Live takes are a different animal but Benmont was in the studio for the solo album and this might be a frankenstein track.

I love the save it for later cover. This didn’t grab me on first listen. It’s a shame, as I really dig his wildflowers cover

Haven’t listened yet. The Tom Petty tributes aren’t very interesting. That’s one of the reasons why Wreckage doesn’t work for me.

Long Way is my favorite of the group.

Yawn. When is he going to play/record 'The Waiting' again? One of my all-time favourite covers by anyone.

I love this song but Tom's version curbs this one. 3 sad little stars signifying meh.

I hadn't heard this song before; I listened to this, then the much more sensitive Petty version; I hear the weird enunciation from Ed, and the way he kind of bends notes now from low to high (*in there* liiiives) but hey it's a really nice song so whatever; I appreciate the louder Yield-like guitars on Ed's version

Not a big fan of this studio version. Eddie’s version at the Oscars a few years ago was fantastic though.

I've always thought Ed covered this well. But nothing compares to the OG. Petty's original is perfection.

Howie Epstein’s vocal harmonies are the secret weapon of the original.
