Re: The New & Unproved Work/Job/Career Thread
Hired a new girl on 7/10. She farted around during hiring and I was finally able to start her 7/31. She came in and trained and had a since missed every day she was scheduled to train. So 6 shifts in the last 10 days. After calling out for today and tomorrow and promising me she’d be there next week no matter what, I had to just now let her go. Sometimes you just can’t make things work out.

For some reason I thought there was a period after "farted". Not a good first impression.

Now HR is mad at me for firing her. Basically, they don’t like when we fire someone without going thru them.

The main across the board reason is to ensure there are no legal considerations or keep the company from being liable in possible discriminatory practices. There can be industry, company, state/federal law requirements (ie timing of last paycheck) involved as well.wease wrote:Why? So what do you do - tell the employee they’re gone then tell HR? Hopefully immediately…

Lenny, can someone be fired for constantly emailing me requests for last minute deliverables disguised as nonsensical gibberish?

My question is, how does wease still not know the proper procedure for firing someone? He's done it a thousand times by now

If they are in an at will state they can be fired for anything not illegal. The better question is should they. If what they are doing is making your work experience more difficult they should be given a spot bonus and certificate of appreciation for going above and beyond.pepperwhiteMFC wrote:Lenny, can someone be fired for constantly emailing me requests for last minute deliverables disguised as nonsensical gibberish?

Yep. That’s exactly what I did. As for last paycheck, this will be her only paycheck from us.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:The main across the board reason is to ensure there are no legal considerations or keep the company from being liable in possible discriminatory practices. He knows. He also knew HR wouldn’t like it. But sometimes you just gotta do what’s best for the center and let HR sort it out later. The Argonaut wrote:My question is, how does wease still not know the proper procedure for firing someone? He's done it a thousand times by now
