Yep, overall much better and less cringey than the last two.
“We were reaching that point where there was talk about maybe doing a greatest hits album, and we weren’t really in favour of doing that,” Bellamy said. “So it’s almost like we’ve made a record that is a greatest hits album – of new songs. That means this album might have a metal track on it – and it’s like, the best metal track we’ve ever done. Or there’s a sort of soft ballad, love song and it’s probably the best ballad love song we’ve ever done, and so on. It’s a montage of the best of Muse. It’s a new take on all of those types of genres that we’ve touched on in the past.”
It definitely sounds like an homage to some of their better sounds and songs - kind of like what REM did with Collapse Into Now (though obviously MUCH less successfully).

'Ghosts' is probably the most tuneful and least cringey ballad they've done since 'Endlessly' :nice:

And 'You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween' is just plain silly fun :bammer:

If you ever had even a passing interest in early Muse (Showbiz/Origin/Absolution), do yourself a favour and download this recently surfaced pre-FM bootleg of their legendary Earls Court 2004 show :nice:

MUSE

-------------------
LIVE AT EARLS COURT
-------------------

Often considered one of Muse's greatest ever performances, the two nights at London's Earls Court that brought the Absolution Tour to a close in 2004 felt like a very special occasion. The band were coming back home for the first time after a long tour in the USA, and just in time to wrap up the year before Christmas.

After almost two-decades of listening to a lossy and artifact-filled satellite radio rip, we have been blessed with access to the original XFM Master CD of this legendary show. A huge thank you to kikinette for purchasing and sharing this gem via MuseBootlegs.com!

Edits:
Retracked so start of tracks align with start of songs
Separated Encore Breaks and Exit Music
Patched gap between Track 16 and 17
Faded in Track 01
Faded out Track 22
No remastering or changes to levels/EQ

All tracks recorded live at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, UK by XFM on 20th December 2004 except for 'Dead Star' recorded at same venue on 19th December 2004.

Wow, that's really cool. I remember listening to the radio recording a lot back in the day, even though it sounded like shit and had all of the standard radio show interjections.

I was living in London 2003-2005 and lucky enough to go to Wembley 2003 and the first Earls Court show in 2004 (and Radiohead at Earls in 2003 along others).

Such exciting and memorable shows :luv:

London is such a gig-going paradise - especially in contrast to the touring backwater that is Australia :(

I remember when I heard Dead Star for the first time. What a tune.

The "Dead Star/In Your World" standalone single was a massive one-two punch, but I have often wondered why those songs never made it onto an album. I guess Origin and Absolution had no shortage of bangers, and even the b-sides from those eras were incredible.

Peak Muse IMO.

Try Perth Western Australia as a specific, stagnant slough within that larger touring backwater. :shake:
