Not particularly. So I don’t have an archetype or other standards to measure against what pj does

we generally (with reasonable, but far from total success) tried to strip
personal preferences from the entries and engage in songs on their own terms in the context of their albums. You want blistering takes like that, you need to go to RM

As far as PJ punk, there’s Comatose and then there’s everything else
fair distinction. neither is a genre i love

how do you classify WWS, Superblood, and Mind Your Manners (in terms of what they are trying to be)?

Not sure if this was directed my way. I was very much being playful. Sorry it didn't land that way. :peace:

MYM is probably leaning 'punk rock' while the other two are pretty forward rock n roll songs.

I've always found it so weird when people call anything that isn't from the 1950s "rock n roll"

All these stupid labels are just shorthand. They exist so we can say “it’s a bit punky,” instead of having to explain the aesthetics of a track to a now-very bored friend.

They aren’t containable, constrained by era, or even all that distinct. And anyways, it’s all pop music.

While it remains true that there isn't a PJ song that I can't stand or that I think is total garbage, Comatose is definitely toward the bottom of the pile for me. It's a song I always skip and never have a craving to hear. It was a low light on the album when it dropped and it's never really gained much traction over the years.

While I like it a little more than Habit, I at least understand why people like Habit. I get that I'm a weirdo for not liking Habit. This song gets far more love than I'm able to wrap my head around. But that's why they make strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla as my grandma used to say.

The first 30 seconds with headphones is my favorite part.

Always liked this track, ever since they played it pre-avocado as crapshoot rapture. I've never been enamoured with ed's delivery on the studio version tho.

I really like everything in this song apart from the chorus, which I found embarrassing for a long time; these days I can tolerate it and enjoy the song as a whole; the coolest thing about this song might be the duelling guitars

comatose with no fear of falling is a great lyric, though

I mean, I guess? But he's comatose. He doesn't feel anything. It would be way weirder to be comatose and simultaneously have a fear of falling.
