I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I liked Dr. No as well. Haven't read Telephone yet, but it's on my list.

he's quickly becoming a favorite.

I'm only about 40 or so pages in and it feels a little slow. Hoping things pick up. if not, I'll have to throw my kindle in the wood chipper.

I'm reading The Girls by Emma Cline. The Guest was outstanding and this is shaping up to be excellent as well (50% through). I'm kinda surprised more people don't talk about her in literary terms. Feels like her books are marketed as "chick lit" or "beach reads." And they are? I guess... but they're so much more, too. They aren't just page turning plot machines. They have real deep, complex themes and fascinating characters. I don't know. She's really fucking good.

I read The Girls a few years back and enjoyed it.

I read The Guest a couple of months ago, and enjoyed it very much. One of those books you could read in a day if you let yourself. I'd just finished Big Swiss. Both feature flawed lead characters...both also happen to be female. It was a nice one-two punch.

I'm with you. Who cares what they're marketed as/labeled. They're intriguing.
