Oh, I have. Believe me, I think those are the worst. Didn't the big "500 Greatest Albums Ever" one have like six Beatles albums in the top ten?Fuzzcharger wrote:Not that Rolling Stone are the be all and end all because they clearly aren't, but have you seen one of their Greatest albums polls?Lament wrote:This thread has taught me that according to Pearl Jam fans, pretty much ever "great" album ever made was made by white dudes with guitars.

Apparently five Beatles albums and a John Lennon solo album are all better than anything Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, or Robert Johnson had to contribute to the world.

I try to never compare rap, jazz or blues albums with rock albums. When these sort of discussions come up they're already the epitome of pointless; why muddy the waters further comparing Fear of a Black Planet with, say Pinkerton?Lament wrote:This thread has taught me that according to Pearl Jam fans, pretty much ever "great" album ever made was made by white dudes with guitars.
And since we're closing down this ridiculous and incredibly stupid thread, here are my top 10 favorite rap / hip-hop albums of all-time (because, why the fuck not?):
1. Ice Cube - Death Certificate
2. Dr. Dre - The Chronic
3. Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
4. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
5. N.W.A. -Straight Outta Compton
6. Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
7. The Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death
8. The Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
9. Scarface - The Diary
10. Black Star - Black Star

yeah, if I can agree with matt on one thing in this thread, it's that these best album conversations are shorthand for best 'rock' album.

Re: LB being a better album than Vitalogy is reasonable?
So this is a really weird thread to make my introduction in but since the whole thread is pretty much crazy anyways here it goes...
My name is Adam I'm 28 and I of course love PJ. As someone who really got into PJ later in life I understand where the OP is coming from. I first bought 10 probably sophomore year in high school 01, 02 ish. Listened to it liked it of course but wasn't fanatical, I also bought VS probably a year later. It wasn't until I was browsing cd's at Wal-Mart of all places and saw what I thought and still think is one of the coolest album covers of all time Avocado picked it up and said hey I like the other cd's by these guys why not buy this one? Well I really connected with that album, I think the rockers are great and the second half of that album always leaves me feeling like I love this fucking band! So I decided to dig more into the rest of the discography and buy that I mean buy every studio album and the rest is history. With all that being said I loved Backspacer, Avocado, and Lightning bolt probably because they are the only times I've gotten to experience the hype and enjoyment of a "new" Pearl Jam album with others. That being said Binaural is my favorite album of theirs just because of its mood and I love Mike's guitar on that album. Anyways guys probably too long winded but this thread made me wanna finally join after quite awhile of just reading posts.
