This was great! Stylish and visceral, and very very simple, which was a good choice. Fede Alvarez was the star here. He crafted a lot of images that are so nightmarish and cool. One complaint that I have in terms of filmmaking is the messy, jumbled editing towards the end of the movie, there were parts where the geography of the action was very muddled and it was hard to tell what was happening. But I was a big fan of this. Wanna watch it again

This was very, very good but not great. I enjoyed it!

You didn’t have to add the “you bitch” to the end of that line. Eye-rollingly bad. Most of the homages to the other films were good but also unnecessary.

Production design and tone were A+. Super well done.

I was pleasantly surprised by it not being an over-the-top gorefest. Giant kudos to Fede for showing restraint. These movies have never been about prolonged periods of in your face gore (other than Resurrection, which lessens its quality). This makes it rewatchable for me.

I wasn’t super impressed with the score.

CG isn’t good enough yet to show a fully-lit digital face — just lower the damn lighting instead of showing Ash/Rook closeup with a spotlight shining on him!

I had to laugh at the opening scene with the WY scientists cutting the alien out. No protection other than some hazmat suits. Good luck!

I was surprised there was no reveal of someone else being in one of the cryopods. Felt like they were setting us up for that from the first time we saw them.

They really didn’t notice the rat monstrosity in the lab before leaving?

Stop revealing everything in the trailers! Imagine seeing the zero gravity acid scene for the first time during the movie instead of YouTube.

Yes some of the dialogue was sub-par. Some lines were corny ("Andy... are you still there?") and some were unnecessarily underlining ideas that the audience had already been guided to ("That's not just any random room!")

I had this thought throughout but ultimately I thought it worked due to the uncanny valley of it going hand-in-hand with the creepy artificial lifeform.

I like the way it drove home the “destructiveness of corporate greed” message from the first two movies by being, itself, an example of the destructiveness of corporate greed.

A groanworthy moment to be sure, but that whole zero gravity sequence was pulled off so well. Very impressed with what Fede Alvarez did

There's one shot that's going to stay with me for a while, that circular tracking shot of Andy rebooting in the cryogenic room and staring straight into camera, all red vapor and terror. I got goosebumps

Despite some minor quibbles (all of which have been mentioned here), I liked this a lot. Loved the look and aesthetic. A great choice of director for this particular movie.

Was there too much "fan service"? Perhaps. But, as a fan, I say "service me"!

It was good, but one have to wonder how much of the originality is sacrifice in favour of fan service. This is almost like a greatest hits Alien written by an AI.

I really think that the only place where FS fully work is in comic movies.

Something that Im just thinking about is that for the newbie who just watch an Alien movie for the first time, and do the sugested social-media-bombarded chonological order, how insignificant those catch phrases or plot points of the originals will turn out to be if they watch it here first.

And that one, egregious line, in particular, actually cheapens the original if that viewer ends up watching Aliens afterward.
