I dont quite understand that piece..Hatfield wrote:Nice take on it.Tuolumne wrote:http://www.spin.com/#articles/robin-pecknold-pearl-jam-corduroy-jimmy-fallon-video/
Interesting take. Robin Pecknold is a very legit artist, and it's very very interesting to see someone take on the subject matter of Corduroy. I get that the arrangement was a little tricky, and it was a well-intentioned try at what's got to be a really hard song to do. He'd probably top PJ if they covered any of their folky songs, that would be almost too easy for them. This was a bit of a surprise, and I appreciated it for just that alone. I did find myself feeling like I was hearing the lyrics in a new way, so atleast it worked on that level. I also gotta rewatch to check out this cute blonde chick.
I put the studio Corduroy on after listening to this. Pearl Jam is amazing.

The singer and the song were equally unsuited to each other, I think. I saw Fleet Foxes at the Metro in Chicago after the release of their first album and "nice" vastly understates Pecknold's voice--it's a soaring force of nature when afforded the proper expanses. I could hear Pecknold singing a number of PJ's tunes but this arrangement was just too tightly bound to something which is simply not his metier for him to really shine on it. It was a nice tribute, little more.stip wrote:The singer had a nice voice but the overall effect was to make the song feel kinda lifeless. Pleasant.

I'm with them too i guess (except the only listening to PJ part) because I thought that was total rubbish last night.BurtReynolds wrote:the "I only listen to pearl jam and pearl jam approved bands" crowd on pj.com forums really hated that one. figures.
It didn't stay true to the power of the song whatsoever.

Personally, when it comes to covers, I prefer the bands to do their own take one it, even changing tone. I don't see much point in doing a cover that sounds like the original. i thought it was a little rough, and probably wasn't thought out much beforehand, but I liked most of it.

It does seem that between this and PJ20 the best they could do is get Cornell. Kinda sad. I'd like to think they could find fresher blood.harmless wrote:I'm sure it's happened before. But my point was supposed to be more general: grunge musicians propping up other grunge musicians (Temple of the Dog and other such collaborations, live or on record) isn't very interesting to me anymore.
