Re: The All-Inclusive Kamala Harris thread
If another country was fighting a war like this against a non-Muslim insurgent group, I have a very hard time believing America/Americans would support it. The American bias toward Israel has been on full display forever, and has now reached a clown-like level. There isn’t a bone in my body that doesn’t support the existence of Israel or desire to to see them safe and free. This isn’t the same Israel we grew up learning about. This is a fringe right wing mission to assert dominance against people they have clearly dehumanized. Hamas and Palestinians are not one in the same.

I have relatives who think we should always support Israel because they are God's chosen. They are a silly folk.

Also from there:
The actual results here are: https://www.pcpsr.org/en/node/980
Oct 7th? 61% say it was the right thing
Situation at the end of the war? 59% say they want Hamas back in control
Two state solution? Ain't happening at 32%
Armed Intifada? They're on board at 63%
TLDR: The motivation is religious fanaticism.Shikaki explains this significant support for Hamas despite the suffering caused by the war: “The support for Hamas comes from various sources, but the most important one is because Palestinians share Hamas' values. They will support Hamas for that, even if Hamas makes wrong moves here or there."
He explained that those values comprise three main elements: a high level of religious observance, no separation of faith and state and primacy of religious identity over national and ethnic identity. He said about one-third of people polled in Gaza share those values, and slightly fewer in the West Bank.
The second source of support, he says, "is the belief that Hamas stands for resistance, armed resistance to Israeli occupation, at a time when the majority of the Palestinians believe that the only way to end the Israeli occupation and allow the Palestinians to be free, independent and sovereign is the use of force."

One religion is objectively better than the other, if you like humanstragabigzanda wrote:The motivation seems to be religious fanaticism heavily colored by disinformation, based on the quote I shared above.
In any event, you seem to be pointed squarely towards “two wrongs make a right” territory, as I don’t see how a State-sponsored war built on the scaffolding of mandatory military participation doesn’t also equal religious fanaticism.

Re: The All-Inclusive Kamala Harris thread
I can't imagine a poll in the middle of a war being accurate. If someone bombed my family, then asked me if I thought people who attacked my attackers committed atrocities, I'd probably spit in their face and stab them in the neck. i certainly wouldnt say "yes".
