yeah, i started with it when Jim was a part of SY and i saw the band live with him

i was very impressed. PJ was also touring with SY and Ed talked about Jim a lot so that helped for sure.

Thurston has a new solo record out soon.

It's nothing earth-shattering for T-Dog, but I'm still enjoying the hazy vibes of this song quite a lot:

It nails a certain vibe I really like about him as a guitarist and singer. "Hazy" is the perfect description. I get the same feeling with songs like "Ono Soul" and "Hits of Sunshine".

I find some cool SY releases on bandcamp. Here's a great thing but without Kim. Very textured and buzzy thanks to Jim O'Rourke.

I'm guessing if Sonic Youth ever had a reunion, the lineup would look something like this. Probably with Mark Ibold involved too.

Enjoy

At the time Corduroy Records & Detective Agency, primarily a vinyl pressing plant was the only place in the world offering the ability to record live and direct to acetate. As both an employee of Corduroy and a fan of Sonic Youth I saw a unique opportunity when they toured Murray Street in 2004. Who better to cut a record in this fashion than the musicians who so publicly professed a love for spontaneous composition? Through a series of emails and to my great surprise they said yes. Probably. If we can swing it.

We moved forward as if it was happening, although I remember a strong seat of the pants trepidation that the bottom could fall out of the session at any time. After all, the band was in the country to play shows promoting their new album, not to record an improvised session at some place they'd never heard of organised by some kid they'd never met.

Oh cool find!!

Yeah, i mean if Kim is not involved they can name it differently but i would be open to the band playing with Jim again. Mark Ibold not so much.

Still i feel Jim is also impossible as Thurston´s wife is his ex

Is she actually his ex? I know he was the one who introduced her to the band.
they were romantically involved yes, and Jim was desperate enough for her.

i just read all about it. Had no idea.
Kim tells a story in her book about Jim being desperate in Tokyo, doing all kinds of weird shit for her. Its about time i re read that book, its pretty fun.

yeah, i mean around the time they were together, the couple was awesome. They always were snobs from NY to me, but still they were cool. With time i guess Moore had a very important crisis and he actually fell in love with her, i mean they are still together.

But Kim got stronger i guess. Her musical career is great these days and she seems to be in a great place.

Divorce is important guys.

This is a good time to retell the story of when I shared a flight with Thurston, Kim, and their daughter. I was about two rows back from them on a plane flying from Hartford to Atlanta.

I noticed Kim in the check-in line first, and then sheepishly said hello to her in the next check-in kiosk over from her. She smiled and didn't say anything.

Then I saw Thurston in the same gift shop where I was buying a magazine in our terminal. I thought it'd be cool if they were on the same flight and it turns out they were.

Had my washing machine t-shirt packed in my bag actually, but I really didn't say s*** to them besides that hello to Kim when I was checking in.

This was probably like 2005 or so.

I don't think SY will ever reunite under that name.

However, I can easily see Lee, Thurston and Steve playing again in some capacity - as they did a few months ago:

I don't know if the marriage break-up has really affected how I think of either Kim or Thurston.

Thurston spoke very respectfully, even quite tenderly, about Kim in his book (which was generally pretty good and enjoyable).
