We really deserve to celebrate this one team. The speculation thread alone was probably worth 50,000 in sales so what I'm saying is harmless is the real 6th member of Pearl Jam now.

Can someone with a little knowledge about the subject say something about the production of Lightning Bolt? Do you think it's a well produced record? I'm not sure what it is exactly but something feels off to me. The drums sound so strange, the guitars sound buried and Ed feels like he's "on top" of the music instead of "in" in the music most of the time. (Maybe that's intentional, having Ed loud and clear). I listened to Backspacer today and while that record sounds pretty polished it still sounds good/well made. I actually might prefer Backspacers production.
I would really appreciate it if someone with a little knowledge could give a little review or something.

Ed being up front so much was a choice by BoB. Works well in some of the slower songs and less effectively in the faster songs. I like him where he is in yellow moon, but less so in l-bolt (or pendulum--those are the two biggest offenders).

Yellow Moon is the one where I enjoy everything about Ed.

I think I'll take a break from LB for a while to let it settle in a bit. Swallowed Whole actually annoyed me right now. D-D-DROOOWN DROWN DROWN DROWN wwhiihiiyyyspuuhered suuoonnggs inside the weeyyuuhnd (Maybe my mood just isn't very good right now)

The album doesn't have infinite depth, so I'd just enjoy it for what it is and come back to it when you're in the mood. I still think "Sirens" is the most fully-realised, deep piece of awesome on this album.

Yeah, and it definitely isn't an album that works with every mood. I'm cranky without reason today and it definitely does not fit that.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I am amazed that PJ still is grabbing a number one album and even though 166K is way less than the old days, it is not a paltry number nowadays in the grand scheme of things. They outsold a lot of bands that are more 'popular' nowadays and they outsold some older acts that one might lump them in with in general. Well done boys.

The one and only thing I can't stand on the song is how he sings Wind. (Which you captured wonderfully I might add!). Second verse onward makes up for it though.

That third vocal tick that I couldn't remember is in SBM, when he sings "I believe in love and disaster". He says "disastgrer." I'm not sure why.

McP (probably) had a good post about this a while back. Pearl Jam's demographic is more likely to be buying albums. Newer artists are more likely to have people seeking out their music in other ways

Its stronger than both of them not only in sales but in chart position too ( KA was 5 and TDPDH was number 2).

Still, it's the largest debut week for any rock album since last November, when Phillip Phillips' "The World From the Side of the Moon" bowed with 169,000.
