To be fair, they made one character suddenly gay, included a pointless subplot about Starlight be shamed for having an abortion, and the big battle was an "insurrection" on "January 6th" to replace the just elected president. Not kidding on any of those.McParadigm wrote: More recently, the culture warriors decided to get all wound up about The Boys. Conservatives declared the show woke and over, and review bombed it. Its viewership went up 20%.

I will grant you that it is lazy to copy-paste real life into your script. But I don’t watch that show, so I don’t have a frame of reference for how this differs from previous seasons.Bi_3 wrote:the big battle was an "insurrection" on "January 6th" to replace the just elected president.

It always had it's preachy episodes, but conservatives (who are accustomed to ignoring liberal nonsense in entertainment) could ignore it as long as the overall writing held up. These last couple of seasons though....

Re: Star Wars: Acolyte
Previous seasons have been clear in their "Homelander = White America" theme, but it's been part of a more interesting take on how capitalism can subvert society. I think they hit a "problem" where viewers rooted for the villains (homelander, soldier boy, black noir, etc.) and were bored with the heroes, so they had to try to force the interpretation they wanted and lost the plot (ha!) while doing so.McParadigm wrote:I will grant you that it is lazy to copy-paste real life into your script. I agree with your main point though. If you look at the successful sci-fi shows over the last decade or so: For All Mankind, The Expanse, Foundation, Black Mirror, etc., they have very diverse casts and themes and rely on the performers and writers to present stories that are both compelling and inclusive. Understanding the unknown other is the basic plot of all sci-fi after all. This show simply did not do that and covering for the creators' poor performance with bias allegations degrades everyone involved. And that twerking video didn't help.

Thank you for not elaborating.Bi_3 wrote:And that twerking video didn't help.
Wow, is the expanse less than ten years old? That season with Tom Jane feels like ancient history.

I haven't seen many of the later episodes, what exciting new plotlines were opened up by making that guy gay? I assume it was very relevant to the story.Bi_3 wrote:Did I have an issue with that?E.H.
