I loved The Green Knight the first time I saw it, but after reading up and watching videos on the original story and the meaning behind things, and then watching it again, I now consider it to be a borderline masterpiece. You gotta put in the work though!

Also watched Belfast. The movie is like a love letter to growing up there. Very melancholic. A brilliant story as well, about diificult times for a family, and that place in time (the 60s).

Not my favorite this week, but well worth watching.

As someone with limited streaming options I finally watched Cruella last night at a friend’s place. It was.. fine. It did move along fairly quickly for a two hour plus movie and set design/ costuming was impressive.

Watching this now. I can see why it is such a popular movie. It’s certainly well made. Emma Stone is always good, although she struggles a bit to seem fully local. The design is worth the full five stars. The soundtrack is also spot on. Story is ok.

In The Heights.

What a dream. To finally be back in a movie theater. For this theatrical piece, which I adored on stage, to be our welcome back to the cinema! Just amazing. I'm overwhelmed. Super emotional day.

The movie is excellent, too.

Saw In The Heights in the theatre but I wanted to see it again before it left HBOMax, so we watched it last night.

The movie is legit great. It's been decades since there's been an American Musical Film that is truly relevant and vital. John Chu is a fucking great director.

It's interesting because it occurred to me how similar he is to QT, actually. In terms of scope, cinema (creating cinematic art), framing and fantasy. However, Chu's brand of fantasy is much more my speed. It's (Chu's brand) theatrical and doesn't feel explosive or macho like it does with QT.

Anyway, I need more time to think this all through. Maybe I'm way off. It was just something that hit me last night. Either way, In The Heights is great. It's the best musical film made in like 50 years.

Finally planning on seeing this today.

It was very colorful and vibrant. Fine background story, but I found it a bit difficult to get fully involved in the characters. Some of the songs were great.

All in all a very good modern musical.

Old Henry was brilliant. Very underrated. One of the best films of 2021.

She is just so fucking intense and out there, she is reaching Nic Cage levels of greatness for me.

I was really impressed by her performance. She is a great actress. Also thought the movie looked great, really smart choices by the director.
