Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
first time was during the In Rainbows and the second one during the Moon Shaped tour, the last one maybe? i dont remember.
You could see a tired band while during the first show you saw a very energetic one, they clearly discovered a new ground and were enjoying it a lot.

Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
I'm really impressed by the way he sings this part of the first verse:
I'm a boxer on the ropes
You are standing in
My light
You've wound yourself around me
Like you know me
The pause between "standing in" and "my light" is awesome.

Man, why can't Thom sing in the vocal style of "Instant Psalm" more often instead of his weird modern goblin voice?

Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
I'm with you there, trag. Except, so far, I've found one amazing song across three albums. But to be fair, I've only listened to two albums. I have no idea how this band has already released three!
But I do wish they resonated with me more. Seems like something I should absolutely love and adore. I'm glad it's working for others, though.

I like them all, but hearing the songs live is where it's at.tragabigzanda wrote:i'm not sure I've ever been more underwhelmed by a band than I have The Smile. Should hit me so hard, but I feel like there's one amazing album to be found across three records.

I just want 1 album made up exclusively of "You will never work in Hollywood" type tracks.tragabigzanda wrote:i'm not sure I've ever been more underwhelmed by a band than I have The Smile. Should hit me so hard, but I feel like there's one amazing album to be found across three records.

Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
the problem for me is i'm used to hearing intricately layered songs accompanied by thom yorke's vocals. but here, it's just pretty thin, straightforward stuff. if you replace yorke with someone else this would be an afterthought.

Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
Guess im the only Smile fan but this new album and the second one are amongst the best stuff from this year easily. I also liked the first one too.
Feels exactly what i was waiting from Thom and Jonny with Radiohead and with a more jazzy drum sound. I just love it,
Instant Psalm, Zero Sum, Colors Fly and Eyes & Mouth are wonderful.

Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
It's a watered down version of Radiohead. I thought so after the first release. Next two albums did nothing to change that for me.
And he's rapping about windows 95 on this album.

I only listened to a handful of songs from the first record and it was a total miss for me.
