the "I only listen to pearl jam and pearl jam approved bands" crowd on pj.com forums really hated that one. figures.

I'm with them too i guess (except the only listening to PJ part) because I thought that was total rubbish last night.
It didn't stay true to the power of the song whatsoever.

you can hate it, just don't hate it for the same insane reasons those lunatics do.

Personally, when it comes to covers, I prefer the bands to do their own take one it, even changing tone. I don't see much point in doing a cover that sounds like the original. i thought it was a little rough, and probably wasn't thought out much beforehand, but I liked most of it.

I was really thinking he was going to do a version like the Bridge School one back in '95.

Would have suited him better. And with bongos and shit, would have been great.

I didn't see or hear anything wrong with that Corduroy performance, and it's my favourite PJ song. The only issue with the Chris Cornell one was that it was Cornell, and I'm kind of bored of grunge musicians doing each others' grunge songs.

Has this been happening often? This is the first time I've seen it.

I'm sure it's happened before. But my point was supposed to be more general: grunge musicians propping up other grunge musicians (Temple of the Dog and other such collaborations, live or on record) isn't very interesting to me anymore. I'd much rather see an unexpected cover like the second one.

It does seem that between this and PJ20 the best they could do is get Cornell. Kinda sad. I'd like to think they could find fresher blood.

Yup. SG and Pearl Jam are kind of in a total vacuum right now. It's been like that for a long time but, meh. I guess I don't believe this legendary HoF all-American rock band stuff. It seems like a media ploy; if it were true, it seems like musicians young and old would be queueing up to cover Pearl Jam, and they're not.
