I had to work until 6 last night. Doors opened at 6:30 and I wanted to get in and try to get a shirt/drink before Glen started at 7:30. So, I wasn't able to meet up with anyone pre-show. But I hope everyone had a great time! I went ahead and got the Red Mosquito tour t-shirt, because duh.

Anyway... here's some random thoughts about the show (tagged because it's gonna be long and rambly):
Spoiler: show
- First time ever having floor seats @ a PJ show. Loved being down there.
- Sound was great. Band felt energized and laid back. Seemed like they were having a lot of fun.
- Pendulum started a little wonky. Felt like they needed a song to warm up. But it was a nice opener/tone-setter. The guy next to me asked what I thought they'd open with. He thought Corduroy. I said, "I think something slower, like Pendulum or Wash." And then he told me about the last time they played Wash in Brooklyn (a show I was at!) and the garbage strike ending that year. It was funny.
- Better Man that early felt surprising, but it was a great version. The crowd seemed super into it, at least around me.
- Immortality is a personal fave. So glad they played it. I've heard it a few times live and I always enjoy it.
- All the DM songs sounded fucking great! Hearing them live really opened up the album for me and took the songs to a new level, for me. React, Respond was my personal fav or the DM songs. That thing is a monster.
- Satan's Bed was a treat! Didn't expect it at all and it was maybe the best live version I've heard.
- The McCready Show really hit another level with Even Flow. Mike was on fire all night. My wife even commented on how fucking insane he was.
- Wasn't sure they'd play Upper Hand but it was the song I most wanted hear from DM, so that felt special.
- I told my wife before the show that I was really feeling a Riot Act song. It's my favorite album and I know they haven't been playing much from it this tour. So I felt good the universe would do me a solid and let the band know I was jazzed for ANYTHING from the record. They played LBC. It started rough. Ed was lost. But once they reset and started over it was great. I later saw that DOC was on the setlist but crossed off for LBC. That's a bummer. DOC is the Gigaton song I most want to hear! I didn't get it on the last tour and was hoping for it last night. Aw well... careful what you wish for, I guess (lol!).
- Black was fantastic. One of the best I've been in the room for. Mike was out of his mind. He stabbed his amp with his guitar, threw his guitar to the ground like it insulted his sister after owing him money. Then got on the stage and played it flat, like a pedal steel or a slide guitar. It was nuts. So electric. That dude was running all over place. He looks 15 years younger and moves 20 years younger than anyone else on that stage. Wild.
- Given to Fly was a highlight. Great intro/dedication by Ed. Super emotional. And this version fucking delivered! I always try to say that GtF is an overrated song. But every time they play it live I turn into a weepy mess. It destroys me. Honestly, it's high time I just admitted that it's a top 5 PJ song for me. God I love it.
- The encore break was weird. People around me sat down and stopped cheering. Ed even made a joke about the lackluster cheers/applause when he came back out to play Imagine. Never thought I'd see the day...
- Inside Job was brilliant. Another highlight. That into Unthought Known blew me away. I'm not necessarily big on either of those songs, but goddamn they really worked for me last night. Another big emotional moment for me.
- There were a lot of times during the show that a song would start and I thought of stip. Hope he had a great time.

There's a lot more to say but I've gone on long enough. The crowds are old, man. That was weird. I've never felt like the youngest person in the room at a PJ show. And there were a lot of giant assholes on the way out that damn near killed my good feeling. In general, it was a weird crowd. Maybe that was just my section, but, none of it ruined the show for me. Just weird.

Oh! Also... y'all Glen Hansard fucking ROCKS HARD. That dude rocked so hard he broke his GUITAR STRAP. I've never seen that shit before! Unreal.

sorry to hear the crowd was weird. def sounds like ticketmaster related hijinx as part of PJ premium. Also I wonder if this show falling on the first day back to work/school after Labor Day didn't help to encourage a fulsome crowd. Had this show occurred a week ago or on the weekend maybe different story

Out of my Mind sounds kinda groovy on the single but the couple live renditions i have heard from recent years sounded more like a high speed Polka. Mattspeed drumming and Ed’s contempo vocal delivery style def didnt help.

I agree they should be playing real songs as the treat rather than covers and trinket rarities

like when was the last time we got Parting Ways

or Insignificance

Yeah, I'm usually not the type to complain about setlist stuff. I don't get to enough shows to really care. I just want to hear the band play. But I really could do without the covers, myself. I thought Imagine was moving and Baba is always fun, full of energy. But I'd much rather have had Sleeping By Myself or Thumbing My Way instead of Imagine and Setting Sun or Yellow Ledbetter instead of Baba, for example.

Out of My Mind was fun and a lot less bothersome than those covers, good as they were.

There was a dude behind me who just goes to too many shows. He was so fucking loud and so off key the entire night. I didn't mind the singing along. But he tried to do all these chants that no one else was doing. I was like, we get it bro, you go to shows! You know what happens, you know all the chants!

But like McCready is shredding the fuck out of this solo. I want to hear it. I don't wan it drowned out by you bellowing "OOOOOOOooooop" over and over again for 5 minutes all by yourself like you expect us to join in. It's Even Flow, I get it, but show some respect!

That dude alone was the only reason I was so glad they didn't play Corduroy.

Bi_3 wrote:I have thoughts. Probably need to wait till I am home, but the overwhelming difference between this and previous shows there was the crowd. A disaster. The entire row behind me was empty and the rows in front were filled with people who knew each other. Not like Jamily, “hey I know you”, like they all worked together everyday. And all had paper tickets. It must have been close to 50 people. Likely a corporate event. What the actual fuck Pearl Jam. Those could have easily been 10cers who would have watched the show instead of chatting and vaping the whole time.

Out of My Mind: somehow I’ve heard this three times in the last few years. It’s cool that it has evolved into a legit song from the messy improvisation it once was, but it doesn’t fit live shows well in their current format
I was up in the nose bleed seats. From my vantage point folks seemed into everything. It will not go down in history as one of the most emotionally charged crowds ever but they ate everything up in total. Can't speak to your immediate environs, obviously

haha maybe first time corduroy call-and-response would have led to an IRL altercation

This is maybe the craziest personal stat I’ve ever heard. That might be a fun thread in Live. What is your biggest PJ anomaly? This is probably the winner, though.

Two great sets, but on paper and having watched the Out of My Mind and Satan’s Bed videos, I like night one a bit better. Black, Immortality, and Indifference are all top tier songs for me. That said, Hail, Hail, Garden, Leash, Glorified G, Won’t Tell, and RVM is a formidable list.

It was prefaced with a speech that basically was asking us to take out our phones to light up the arena in honor of one or the greatest humans to ever live lol. I forget exactly what he said but me and my friend kinda looked at each other when the song started and were like “John Lennon??”

I know the guy was a troubled guy with both good and bad actions, and I don’t think he was like…an evil man, but it seems Eddie might wanna research some of the guys faults lol.

Out of My Mind has sucked most times they've played it. I just heard the version from Boston (2018 I think?) and it was awful.

Well, this show has already been reviewed pretty thoroughly but here goes anyway. I wrote a lot without saying much that hasn't been said.
Spoiler: show
This was my third show in four days. Was at Wrigley on 8/31 and then saw Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins on 9/1 and then this one. Overall, had a ton of fun on the trip and really enjoyed the show. It was interesting to have the GD show in the middle to contrast the crowd and front man behavior type of stuff. One big takeaway: PJ crowd is old. Very few young people there in contrast to GD. Also, RM would absolutely despise BJA's antics lol, the forced call and response, big rock star energy and poses and all that.

Glen Hansard was awesome, I was really impressed. Thoroughly enjoyed his set, very high energy and just gave off that vibe that music pours out through his soul. And his voice sounded fantastic.

We were in section 208, row 13. So, way up there and towards the back corner of the arena. Right before the show it looked like there were about 5-8 rows throughout the 100's on Mike's side that were conspicuously empty. It looked like they filled in as the show started but didn't seem like the typical PJ fan waiting until the last second to get inside thing, hard to know for sure, I guess.

Loved Pendulum as an opener and once the song settled in I thought it sounded good. I'm not overly picky on setlists; I'm seeing PJ it means it's a really good night and while I have songs I want to hear and sometimes get disappointed when a particular song starts, once I say "aw man," I'm pretty much immediately over it, sing my lungs out and have a great time. Better Man was a good example of that. Just got it at Wrigley so I didn't need it again, but it was still a lot of fun, I thought the crowd was impressively loud singing along to this and other songs. Easily the loudest crowd of the three shows, though that could just be because this one was in an arena.

As for the crowd, I thought it was overall pretty good. I was surprised how (relatively) empty GA was when we came in early during GH's set. Looked like there was some good energy down front in GA but overall it wasn't a very physically-engaged crowd from what I saw. Good singing but a lot of standing, not much jumping or dancing save for the first couple rows of GA right. Part of that might be the arena. I jumped throughout the Wrigley show but my spot in the nosebleeds at MSG basically rendered jumping impossible, so maybe that's the arena, not the crowd.

The Dark Matter songs sounded very good with the exception of when the guitar came in on Scared of Fear but besides that they sounded good. And I don't really listen to Dark Matter (song) anymore but it slapped. Biggest disappointment was that they played basically the exact same DM songs as they did in Wrigley. Would have loved to have gotten Won't Tell or Got to Give or Stevie instead but whatcha gonna do.

Satan's Bed was a shock and sounded good and was a ton of fun, definitely a highlight. That's the right kind of rarity: Out of My Mind is the wrong kind, that was a waste for me, but it is what it is. Pretty much from that point forward they just put their foot to the gas and absolutely brought it, a blistering run to close out the first set. I don't like MYM but even that one was a lot of fun, I can see why they like playing it. And Mike was going nuts throughout the back half of the main set as many people have mentioned, very fun to watch him do his thing. The spirit definitely was in him. His rampage followed by his guitar seance was really cool, I think even Ed was kinda watching it wondering what had gotten into Mike.

Again, it's been mentioned but that Given to Fly was incredible in the building. No idea if it'll translate in video or on boots but in the building it was incredible. GTF is one of my very favorite PJ songs and they've played it at almost every show I've been to but the last few shows I've felt like it doesn't hit quite like it should. But man. With Ed practically seething at the beginning and having whipped the crowd up before exploding into it, it was really something. The energy was as if they were playing GTF but channeling Leash. It was unreal. The whole song hit differently The lyrics felt different. It wasn't about escape or transcendence, it was about a person defiantly rising back up, middle fingers to the world. Which in some ways I guess is part of what it's always been. There was just so much rage in this one. It was so powerful it might affect how I view the song forever. Easily the highlight of the night.

The encore was a bit hit and miss for me. Imagine was okay. I don't hate the actual song like most people here but it was just there. When Inside Job started I was disappointed, figured it meant no Setting Sun but it was a very good version. The story and Unthought Known were both good. Even though I yawn looking at those two back to back on a setlist and would have picked lots of other things they both were effectively cathartic and very good. Pretty standard last few to close out the show.

Biggest complaint is the amount of repetition between the two shows I happened to go to, but whatever. It was a lot of fun. Eddie sounded great with the exception of Indifference imo and Mike was on fire. Even from the rafters the energy was great. I'll definitely still do my best to see them next time they tour.
