i assume its the sound in the arena, or perhaps just the balance where i was sitting - second floor, edge of stone’s section, but of the girl sounded a little unusual. a little rock blusier, less atmospheric. it took me a moment to realize what it was.

Probably a PJ thing. They are not as subtle as they used to be, they kind of come out swinging. It seemed a bit like that in St Louis last tour as well.

There is more trust between the band and the fans that together they can create greatness, where at MSG there is an expectation of greatness.

I can relate to this in my section in Philadelphia. Lots of rough South Philly dudes who did not like Eddies pledge to vote for women's rights. Instead, decided they needed to yell "VOTE RED" during his speech.

It can transcend all that external stuff. Maybe it's that the crowds are all so much older, but this last show at MSG was uncomfortably rightwing. Lots of dudes getting all up in their feels about Ed's comments and one guy screaming LET'S GO TRUMP at the top of his lungs all the way down the several flights of stairs as fans exited MSG.

Very weird. I hadn't encountered that kind of thing at a PJ show before. Especially in NYC.

This is probably spot on. All because of the goddamn Live at the Garden DVD.

I wouldn't necessarily say that, NYC is a very different market than Philly... especially MSG.

The MSG expectation I think stems from their second show there on 9/11/98. At the time, it seemed like possibly the best show they’d ever played. Taken with the mythology of the building, earned or not, it raised the expectation level. They also have now a relatively deep bench of great Garden shows.

That said, Philly does have many great shows as well, as does Boston. The band has treated the northeast US very well in its career.

NYC shows get a lot of people buying tickets and not necessarily fans, again especially MSG.
