Is this only talking lyrically? Because in terms of the sound of the record, I think Gigaton is probably one of the most expansive-sounding records they've done (with the caveat that an "expansive" sound or lyric probably means something different to everyone).

Well now that's interesting
It's a good comparison. I was thinking the same as well, but

A: I think tonally and thematically No Code and Yield is closer to Gigaton and Dark Matter. In both cases as well the second album is something of an expansion of the former, an extending outwards, whereas S/T is more of an intentional refutation/response to the headspace of Riot Act

B: It's more provocative to go with No Code and Yield
B:

A: DM doesn't strike me as an expansion of Gigaton. I guess it does if we're looking at it through the prism of RA & S/T. I see your point. But I'm not sure that the point holds outside of that comparison.

Hard disagree with the first part. But I have a feeling "major" is more of a taste thing than quantifiable in any real way. The last sentence feels right.

Though, I'd argue No Code is a "major" record (or feels so) while Yield is/does not.
It probably is taste. I was thinking major in that the records feel more statement making in their intent, even as they puzzle things through, whereas No Code (or Riot Act or Gigaton) feel more like you are witnessing something quiet, something smaller and more intimate, even if it is powerful and significant. Maybe major is not the right word to use. But Yield (and DM and S/T) are records that want to say something, and are letting you know it, and taking bigger, more deliberate swings. Aspirationally they feel bigger. Whether they hit the mark, how much they move you, etc is a different story altogether
I won't agree with "aspriationally" but I like the use of deliberate. That feels better to me than major. Good call.

Team digster

I was assuming because it was stip's point that we were talking about lyrics/themes/etc.

primarily theme but i think in the sound, too. maybe i am rethinking this through the prisim of DM but even the bigger songs on Gigaton feel a little more private. Wont Tell and Seven Oclock are both about dreams, and Wont Tell, a song about a more private experience than the ‘go out and make a difference message of 7oclock’ feels more like you are evesdropping inside someone’s mind. Wont Tell sounds like a rally.

Oh wow, we hear these songs very differently.

1. Didn't know they were both about dreams.
2. I'd flip your descriptions. Seven O'Clock feels way bigger to me than WT.

That's interesting.

I wish Parashar could’ve produced this.

It's in the Dark Matter thread. The edit sucks.

LOL the mutiny that would occur...

I listened to it. Is it me or are the vocals turned up in the mix on this version?

I think they could have gone another 10-15 secs into the solo before the fade. Fading in the first "you can be looooooooved" would be a more acceptable spot.

Begs the question why no radio edit fade on Wreckage?

Can we get it double a-side single with Won't Tell?
