I’m starting to get anxiety over this. It’s been kind of nice not having a ton of stuff, and I’m worried it’ll be a mental shock to have all our crap. Like right now, the garage is mostly empty and easy to park in, but soon, it’ll be full of bikes and ladders and whatever else. I think I’m a minimalist at heart.spike wrote:found out this afternoon that our shipping container cleared customs/quarantine after only a few days - we expected a few weeks. delivery of all our stuff is scheduled for october 4th, as that's earliest the handlers could do. works out well enough as the wife will be abroad til the 28th starting tomorrow (thought i think she secretly hoped it could all be dropped off while she's gone so she wouldn't have to deal with it lol).

Re: Let’s catch up with spike
We did a caravan trip for 2 months a few years ago. The minimalism of only having 4 plates and 4 glasses and only what we could reasonably fit in the van really struck me as an incredibly simple and kinda "clear" way to live your life.
Of course that was 2 years ago and now we are well settled back into our 4 bedroom chock-a-block full house.
Less is good for sure, but man it's hard to live by that ideal.

Container arriving Friday with most of and the remainder of our stuff. At long last!
Was able to book the kid into her school’s holiday program for the day, since her Nana is high risk in relation to Covid and my wife is recovering.
Rental furniture should be gone by 2pm tomorrow, so we booked a hotel downtown for the night. Was meant to be a chance for an adult dinner, but the kid will be with us now. We want to hit up Chinatown, but may pivot as the kid is in picky water phase. Hopefully we all sleep well bunking together.

Re: Let’s catch up with spike
Yeah they’re everywhere. We spent several days on the eastern coast a couple years ago, where they harvest oysters. Went out to a sketchy shack just outside of town and bought heaps for cheap. I think I ended up tossing some out there was so much.96583UP wrote:i like sea foodspike wrote:Probably more extensive seafood offerings than you’d see stateside. And gotta get them unshucked and shuck yourself to get all that brine.

Have you banished the Covid carrier to the guest bedroom?

Re: Let’s catch up with spike
I banished myself to the guest room. Pretty sure I have it now anyway - started feeling crook last night before bed - and the movers came early to pick up the rental furniture this morning, so now we have a chair and a blow up mattress til our hotel room is ready later today. FML.

Re: Let’s catch up with spike
The day’s worked out okay so far. I’m hanging in there health wise, watched the end of the Brewers game on the tram ride to the city, then our hotel room was ready early so we’re not left wandering. Went across the street for a nice lunch, chilling in the room now.
It’s also helped that the wife decided to clear her schedule for the day, since we didn’t know how I’d pull up this morning. Of course, she’s the one napping now.
