Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

I already liked the song when I heard it live but it's nice to get a more detailed listen.

It's loud. Just production wise, it sounds extremely loud and blocky. It doesn't bother me so much, I think they were going for that "Plainsong" kind of effect, except it's asteroids crashing against each other instead of icebergs. I feel very positively about the song itself.

Very odd feeling. The last time The Cure premiered a new song I was 21 years old.

This will likely be their last album, so I'm gonna try and enjoy the experience as much as possible

The 2008 album is very pop-rock. Some good songs on there -- I really like "The Hungry Ghost," "The Perfect Boy," and "Sirensong" -- but overall it's weighed down by its extremely muddy sound. The closest thing on there to this new single is the opening song "Underneath the Stars"

Was watching some recent live performances and it's absolutely unreal how good Smith's voice still sounds. It hasn't really changed at all in decades.

Listen to Disintegration

The way the band lulls you into an emotional space with the long atmospheric intros is one of the hallmarks of their best work IMO

The lyrics are so extremely Robert Smith
Spoiler: show
This is the end of every song that we sing
The fire burned out to ash and the stars grown dim with tears
Cold and afraid, the ghosts of all that we’ve been
We toast with bitter dregs to our emptiness

And the birds falling out of our skies
And the words falling out of our minds
And here is to love, so much love
Falling out of our lives
Hopes and dreams are gone
The end of every song

And it all stops, we were always sure that we would never change
And it all stops, wе were always sure that wе would stay the same
But it all stops and we close our eyes to sleep
To dream a boy and girl who dream the world is nothing but a dream

Where did it go? Where did it go?
Broken voiced lament to call us home
This is this end of every song we sing
Where did it go? Where did it go?
Where did it go? Where did it go?
Broken voiced lament to call us home
This is the end of every song we sing alone

I think he's really been facing down mortality after turning 60 and losing his brother

That makes sense. I didn't know that about his brother, but that's gotta hurt. Wow...
