Re: Pearl Jam WEEK on Jimmy Fallon
I'm sure Dirks Bentley fans loved it, but he was not very good at all. However I wasn't expect any of these covers to be amazing. I thought the first two were really good, but I honestly think Pearl Jam songs have to be really hard to cover. Eddie's voice is so meaningful to the story in the song, that hearing another voice seems just awkward. I get the same feeling listening to someone sing a Michael Jackson song. Oh well, tomorrow night we'll be hearing Lightning Bolt and Friday Sirens and an Eddie Vedder interview with Fallon!

Cause he loves it. So did I. I could watch that Metalhead rip PJ solos all day long with a smile on my face...

The bar has been set pretty low. That was just an average vocal with some good session guys rocking out. Again no repeat listens needed.

Re: Pearl Jam WEEK on Jimmy Fallon
This has nothing to do with this topic..... But, Sirens has moved up 10 places over the past couple of hours. Not only that, but Drake overcame Pearl Jam the last couple of days, and PJ is once again on top. They maybe are making a move...
Just a joke, but maybe Dierks opened them up to a whole new spatula of fans. Not really. Check out Dierks homepage, I feel gross just typing that out. Dierks..Dierks...Dierks... It is like murder porn, the more you take in the lesser the impact. So on Dierks!!! Homepage, all you get is really creepy responses from a single individual that needs help. I thought that maybe country singers have a traditional forum for their fans but they do not. Nothing like Red a Mosquito that I can find. There appears to be nothing like this for Dierks fans. Just look at his homepage and surf for comments. It is a very sad place.
And just to say... I think he did a good job. He was not smiling, he did not fuck it up. Good for this guy from a genre we do not respect. He tried his best. No need to be a dick about. It. Tons of PJ fans go on to becomes popular musicians in different genres.

god, I really despise the sound of that country twang.
It probably was fine as a performance, I just hate that sound.

mike was fantastic at the end. I've said this before and i'll say it again. The alive outro is my favorite piece of music ever.
Hearing other people cover their songs is a great way to put just how good those songs are, or how excellent their interpretation of them, are.

For some reason I have an odd sensation to start a new Vedder appreciation thread.

If you are an average singer Country is the place to go. It's a very forgiving audience if they like you. Low expectations.

This seems kind of like a weird thing to say. Country music has some excellent singers, and rock music has Mick Jagger.bada wrote:If you are an average singer Country is the place to go. It's a very forgiving audience if they like you. Low expectations.

Re: Pearl Jam WEEK on Jimmy Fallon
OK, so I've just watched the Bentley performance. It was decent musically (thank God for Mike) but yeah, dreadfully lifeless vocally. What it does, I think, is remind us how crucial Eddie Vedder is to Pearl Jam, and how lucky we've been to have latched onto this band for so long. If we ever needed proof as to why we should be giving Ed less flack, this is exhibit A.
