I had no idea about the Leash context, thanks. That makes sense. Now I wonder why Eddie even said they were playing it?

And whaddaya know, they did play it next yearThey so badly wanted him to play Leash. Eddie listens to them for a while and says "you guys are incorrigible" and then says "maybe next year".

New Orleans 2010. Not bad for a tour opener, short but sweet set!

Re: Which bootleg are you listening to?
Except when it doesn't. Being at the show I didnt realise how often Ed stopped singing to let the crowd kick in. The boot doesn't capture the crowd very well and so each time he does it it's very noticeable and kinda shitty. And that Just Breathe was a train wreck.Higgs wrote:Melbourne 1 2024. Garden and In My Tree were excellent though.

The show and the bootleg really are different beasts. Hope we get a good batch from this tour.

Re: Which bootleg are you listening to?
Totally. Melbourne Night 1 was to my mind the better of the 2 shows I saw but the Night 2 boot is much better imo.LetMeSleep wrote:The show and the bootleg really are different beasts. Hope we get a good batch from this tour.
How lucky are we as a fan base to be able to re-live this stuff in such good quality. #blessed

I'm not feeling any of the Oz tour bootlegs so far, I have to say.
Ed's voice isn't in its best shape and I suspect that's mainly age. It happens to virtually all old rock vocalists at some point and I think Ed's there now. His lower register is still pretty good, he should stay in that lane as much as possible.
The band, Ed aside, more or less sound fine.

Re: Which bootleg are you listening to?
i think he sounds great for his age and given how shaky he's sounded in the past. the pubescent squeaking is gone, a lot of his weird inflections have died away and his singing on the boots since the gigaton era has connected with me in a way the 2009-2016 boots just didn't. i find it pretty impossible to get through any boot from those years, including shows i attended. whereas most of the shows since 2021 i've very much enjoyed. the lack of backspacer/lightning bolt songs on the setlists and touring for albums i actually love definitely helps, too.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm not feeling any of the Oz tour bootlegs so far, I have to say.

i will say, however, that the melbourne night 1 boot definitely doesn't capture the atmosphere in the room that night.

Re: Which bootleg are you listening to?
It's still a bit hit and miss with Ed's voice - there are songs that, even tuned down, Ed still seems to really struggle with. I don't think it's necessarily the pitch that's always the issue, it's how demanding the melody is itself, i.e. shifting quickly from low to high.WtOB? wrote:i think he sounds great for his age and given how shaky he's sounded in the past. the pubescent squeaking is gone, a lot of his weird inflections have died away and his singing on the boots since the gigaton era has connected with me in a way the 2009-2016 boots just didn't. i find it pretty impossible to get through any boot from those years, including shows i attended. whereas most of the shows since 2021 i've very much enjoyed. the lack of backspacer/lightning bolt songs on the setlists and touring for albums i actually love definitely helps, too.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm not feeling any of the Oz tour bootlegs so far, I have to say.

Surprisingly, Matt seems to land some fills awkwardly on most of the Australian boots - I don't think I've heard that before. For 62, he's still an absolute machine, of course.
I feel like there's only so long these guys can keep playing like they are now (e.g. on the road playing 2+ hour sets, etc) before age makes it more and more difficult.

Now THIS I am looking forward to hearing! If it's anything like the rest of your efforts, then I have no doubts it'll be fucking stellar!ridleybradout wrote:Looking forward to getting stuck into making my Australasian Tour compilation over the holidays (and hearing those by others that will likely be shared too).

Agree 100%. Any 2008 boot for me is included there, auto skip. Combination of factors I suppose.WtOB? wrote:i think he sounds great for his age and given how shaky he's sounded in the past. the pubescent squeaking is gone, a lot of his weird inflections have died away and his singing on the boots since the gigaton era has connected with me in a way the 2009-2016 boots just didn't. i find it pretty impossible to get through any boot from those years, including shows i attendedBirds in Hell wrote:I'm not feeling any of the Oz tour bootlegs so far, I have to say.

Agree Ed seems to have found a nice lane in 2024 to drive in and the result has been good, IMO.
