Re: Ukraine
The NATO (and EU) expansion is not the reason for the war.. You have to be really ignorant of history to think so. Russia goes to war with all their neighbours, it’s what they do. The only way Ukraine could have avoided the war, was to either be in NATO, or be like Belarus.
If Latvia was like Ukraine (not in NATO), it would have been invaded a long tilme ago). If Belarus was like Ukraine (a free democracy, and not a Russian proxy), it would have been invaded a long time ago.
Russia doesn’t like the NATO expansion, because it means they can’t control (or more or less terrorize) or go to war with more countries.

thing is..look at the map of Russia. Its fucking vast. its endless..and mostly empty. WTF is with Putin or to Anders point, russia in general that it needs more?
I know his whole thing is to restore the Russian empire, as it was. But thats never going to happen. Especially not by force. #So what is the point? whats he playing at?
and not to reinforce a stereotype but the few russians ive ever met were deeplu unlikeable rude nasty wankers. To a man. I know its a cultural difference but if you gett o know them it explains all this shit to a degree.

Re: Ukraine
Most of it is uninhabitable wasteland, and they have few if any natural geographic defenses, so they try to expand to the Black Sea and west practically to Germany.
Historically the best defense for anyone in the region is a good offense, because flat plains can't be defended. Which is part of the reason the history of the region is a series of slaughters.
I work with several Russians. They are great. No time for bullshit and they are very refreshingly honest. Their caustic humor borne out of a history of tragedy crack me up, though I'm not sure they always mean to be funny.

Ruscism, also known as rashism, russism or simply Russian fascism, is the ideology that forms the backbone of Vladimir Putin’s decades-long dictatorial rule. The term was coined by journalists to describe Russian ultranationalism in Chechnya and Georgia in the late 1990s. However, it began to crystallise into a fully-fledged ideology, complete with an omnipresent symbol – the Latin letter Z – after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Sergej Sjojgu’s father was of Tuvan ethnicity, which has been held against him, but he is close to Putin. But real racism is usually towards non-Russian natives.

Re: Ukraine
The irony of the listicle is that it (correctly) asserts that Putin uses tenuous claims of fascism to rally Russians to his cause, when the article itself is a prime example of using tenuous claims of fascism to motivate the reader to the author's cause.Anders wrote:Ruscism is not just journalist talk, it’s the way Russia is ruled.
To "prove" its case, it lists several things that aren't inherently fascist at all, and a few more that aren't exclusively fascist and can describe almost any country.
What the article actually is - besides generic propaganda using the word "fascism" (which here merely serves as a synonym for "Boogeyman" or "bad guy" or "dictator") - is an attempt to deflect away from the ACTUAL communist roots of Putin (ex-kgb) dictatorship. Because they don't want you to notice that. Instead, it's "far right" or "nationalist", which is the same bullshit they use to paint any of their political enemies (that is: anyone not center-left neoliberal).

Russia inherits the proud tradition of Soviet anti-colonialism. If they fully embraced gay race communism, they'd be on the right side of history (tm).BurtReynolds wrote:The irony of the listicle is that it (correctly) asserts that Putin uses tenuous claims of fascism to rally Russians to his cause, when the article itself is a prime example of using tenuous claims of fascism to motivate the reader to the author's cause.Anders wrote:Ruscism is not just journalist talk, it’s the way Russia is ruled.

It’s wikipedia, but still, there is more interesting info about Ruscism there.

Also maybe stop the stupid goofing off in this thread (with the gay space thing etc).

Re: Ukraine
The only thing remotely interesting or unique about it is that it owes its aggressive power to communist internationalism and Soviet attempts to obliterate ethnic and national identity.
