I'm not a huge fan of the proposed album titles (although I like both transience and restoration as potential song titles)

I like mercury, intents and purposes, and jumbled as song titles.

How about 'Attenuation' for the record?

Some other song title ideas

the fire next time (a civil rights movement reference--but it's also a cool line)

Alford pleas (A west memphis three reference )

Believed in

The gift

3, 2, 1

I think it might be better to say that the actual leak is something more akin to the S/T leak--a few largely finished songs, but not the album itself.

how about putting one of those old alleged song titles from S/T in here. Cold Concession finally makes an appearance!

I would propose the following right now, just to pull all this together.

Attenuation (or Attenuated)

Restoration

Mercury

Believed In

3,2,1

The Gift

Cold Concession

Jumbled

Alford Pleas

Intents and purposes

Transience

I think we should get two more songs in. We can always adjust the list until we start to go live with this (and if people hate some of these ideas we should nix them and add others that people love). I am trying to go with titles that aren't too obvious (other than Bushleaguer and Green Disease they usually shy away from that) and that I think I can basically just make up an imaginary song about.

After listening to the S/T leak i did decide that i don't want to hear it unless its the completed album, so i can play it that way out on the board( not that anyone will remember i said that) but i really do want to have any leaks just incase they are different versions then what end up on the album, so it would be something id want to download but not listen to, i might be able to work something like that into it also. I will least play the not wanting to listen till the album is out part.

I'm pretty adamant about paying for the music I listen to

i was thinking about using cold concession and I think it would be more believable if that was a lyric in a song, rather than a title--a little nugget that can be brought out after the tracklisting is posted.

I kinda wish the next album was called something like of the earth, but then didn't include of the earth
Then everyone could complain about both the lack of a studio of the earth and the fact that ed would probably be writing about waves again :P

I don't think you need to wish for things to make people complain. That's what makes it so easy to fake this stuff. You can put it whatever you want. If it sounds wrong, people will just think that the band is full of shit.

Who would have believe an album name as stupid as Backspacer?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I'm starting to brainstorm some ideas for what these songs are going to sound like, (going with a 6 song S/T style demo leak, rather than the whole album, which is no longer plausible). I'll post them here probably next week (the outline of what i'd say, not the review). If people have ideas (particularly what songs might sound like, cool passages I could describe, etc) that would be helpful

I have to say I find an immense amount of humor in this. I say play up the trend toward corporate sponsorship/partnership we have seen increasingly... That'll really set people on fire!
I surfaced and all of my being was enlightened.

that would be awesome. It would be too early for that. Maybe we can leak information that they are contemplating a similar relationship?

Okay, so for the sampler cd here is where I am at right now. I haven't written up the formal 'review' yet since this is a work in progres. I'm looking for feedback and ideas, especially since we're going to leak someone else's brief overview before my review.

I am going to focus on Mercury, Believed In, 3,2,1, The Gift, Jumbled, and Transience.

3,2,1. A heavy jeff song, with that ability he has to create open claustrophobic places. Seemingly political lyrics in the vague social commentary way. Counting down to a collapse. I think we should have cold concession appear as a lyric in this song.

Mercury/Transience.

I was thinking of the fixer/matt demo thing here. What if they had the same basic riff and then took it in two different directions--one fast, one slow.

Mercury--starts with the riff and gets faster and tighter as the song progresses, with a super fast scales solo. Punk, but like pink floyd was covering the ramones.

Transcience--same riff that gets looser as the song progresses, so the whole thing takes on a trance like quality. Features a solo that keeps getting played slower and slower--like the whole song is gradually dissipating.

The Gift--Mid temp, life affirming (no waves though--I'll make a point about that). It is more 1/2 Full or Red Mosquito than In Hiding or Amongst the Waves. very busy. Lots of guitars playing through each other.

Believed In--Political song about keeping faith in difficult times. Off Kilter riffs but heavy handed lyrics

Jumbled--acoustic song like last soldier but with an accordian instead of a harmonica. has a campfire feel. Return of Eddie's low end (like long nights or skipping). I can't decide if this is a believeable detail or not, but I kinda want the music to resemble the song Sing from Sesame Street. It's a pretty melody and given that they all have kids it could have stuck in someone's head (like GTF and going to california)

I don't know if I'd believe that they've worked accordion into a song at this point in the process.
