The first one is obnoxious. Miller is a pretty annoying director most of the time.

You just don't understand Aussie grit. And that's fine.

The problem is he's not gritty, though. He's wacky. Cartoonish. The Road Warrior is the only one that really finds the appropriately gritty groove. Most of that series is just inappropriately goofy. It makes so much sense that he went on to make fucking Happy Feet.Ello Sailor wrote:You just don't understand Aussie grit. And that's fine.

Re: What movies are you watching?
so the consensus is correct; Road Warrior is much better than Mad Max 1. And I get why people love it, but it's just not for me. I'm not going to try Beyond Thunderdome.

First Jorge with baseball, then Bart with musicals, now Tree with Mad Max.

His dark, almost cruel humor scratches my itch. The tonal clash is kinda jarring at first, but I like his mix.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I always thought of him as a great adventure movie guy who is a lot more caustic and dark than he should be able to get away with. There are plenty of endlessly gritty and miserable dystopia movies. Miller makes the post apocalypse fun!

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
