The race thing got me thinking while walking the dog, and it seems like this has been a bit absent this election? It seems republicans just really loves Trump more than ever and mostly just talk about how great he is. He's been much more likeable than in 2020, with his goofy McDonald's stunts and weird stories and whatnot. I mean, of course there are still attacks on Kamala - I'm not claiming it's a positive race or anything - but I think she's mostly just seen as the latest figurehead for the dem machine that controls the government. Partly because she doesn't have any glaring faults beyond the occasional word salad, and partly because she was mostly hidden for two months. They attacked Walz like crazy, but none of it really stuck.

The dems for the most part attacked Trump as a racist, but mostly against hispanics, rather than racist towards her.

I suspect that the US isn't yet ready for a female president as yet. And even if she gets the votes everything else is rigged against her and in motion to hand Trump the win through the courts or whatever other process his handlers have set up.

I have never had much faith in politicians of any brand or flavour but this particular election cycle has really depressed me with how little anything anyone says seems to matter at all. January 6 - what's a little insurrection between friends? Bring in the military to eradicate the enemy within - that's fine, he doesn't mean it. You guys are gonna get another 4 years of Trump and you are gonna deserve it. He turns over Roe v Wade and takes away your daughter's rights to choose how they deal with their own bodies and you reward him with the presidency. I can't get over that.

Between stacking the election/polling besuracracies with maga republicans, sowing constant doubt on the US democratic election process, having Republican politicians and officials prepped and on board with the plan and contingencies, and SCOTUS effectively in his pocket, I think he's looking just fine right now. Even the Project 2025 playbook that's being put into effect in the background is setting the scene.

Its astounding how planned and prepped things seem to be. It's like January 6 part 2 is pretty much expected now almost by a substantial portion of people who matter (however that plays out).

At this stage though I think he may well win outright regardless, and if he does so be it.

Its fucking depressing watching the US go down this path. I think I need to just stop watching/reading US political stuff as I am honestly really bummed and feeling let down by it all right now.

Even the "dictator on day 1" bit is just a set up. His followers are into it and have a taste. If day 1 turns into week 1 and then month 1 pretty sure that'll be just fine. After all, the leopard won't eat their face will it?

My uneducated guess is that it's recency bias and that 2020 was an outlier. The one-two punch of doom-scrolling during COVID lockdowns and the race riots from Floyd's death created an unprecedented situation where there was no move for Trump that didn't make him appear like a monster and this a political goldmine for the Dems. Fortunately I think most of the country has realized what a humiliating mistake the whole defund/BLM obsession was and so that stick just isn't there for the 'right-side-of-history' squad to beat him with anymore as Harris made the terrible decision to actively supported the looters at the time. Trump doesn't bring it up, the Dems don't bring it up, so it fades away. The closest thing is the mass deportations angle but the Dems can't push that too hard because a majority Americans support it. So they are left with "convicted felon", "adjudicated rapist", and abortion. The wildcard is how many Hamasniks will follow through and actually not vote for her. I don't think it's gonna be a lot, but a few thousand college kids in PA and MI could swing things.

Overall I'm very confident Harris will win. I'm so confident, I'll promise right here to donate $100 to RM if she loses.
