My brother is coming over tonight for a movie. I'm leaning either Re-animator or Return of the Living Dead - what do you guys think?

Doctor Sleep: Directors Cut

I never saw the theatrical release because the person I wanted to see it with passed away, but oddly enough saw a lot of her in the movie, especially the AA scenes. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did, but it was great to watch Ewan and Rebecca Ferguson; she was charismatic yet menacing. It probably could have stood on its own if it wasn’t a continuation of the Shining, I think.

Fantastic. Really grim, great premise, some really cool effects and great performances. Loved it.
So good, right? Creepy as hell, and it has Jeff Goldblum and Donald Sutherland!
This one is on my little list of possible movies to watch this Spooky Season. So that settles it, I'm watching it!

Incorporating imagery from a movie as masterful and beloved as The Shining into a movie as bad as Doctor Sleep is some of the most insane cinematic hubris I've ever encountered

I watched the first two recently and found them to be so over the top that I didn't take the gore seriously. I mostly laughed at how crazy it was and admired the effects.

I really loved Terrifier 2 and am very excited to see 3. Waiting for the disc release, though. I don't think they're awful movies at all; quite well-crafted. Art is already one of the all-time-great horror characters for my money. David Howard Thornton's performance is unbelievable.

I can't watch them because I'm so empathetic and have too much care for others because I'm such a decent person.

Don't you care about all of the people who worked hard on the movie?

No, I agree they're well made. I mean if you did actually have empathy for the characters like Burt does, they'd be awful in that way. The beginning of 3 had me squirming, probably because I have young children and a wife that I deeply care about (spoiler alert, kinda). It's just too much. Then you remember they're just silly comedy movies after all and admire them for the craft.

Last night I ended up watching Halloween 3. Liked it a lot more this time. The story is complete nonsense in the best possible way. I think part of what makes it work is that it's played completely straight.

I'm here to report Terrifier 3 is NOT GOOD. It has the expected over the top blood and gore but the story is like a really bad Goosebumps episode. The novelty wore off very fast. They didn't know what to do or where to go. A whole lot of meandering with some violence sprinkled in, just for its sake, and then it just kinda ends. 4.2/10.
