Re: What movies are you watching?
8.5 is such a high rating! "Pretty dang good" should be reserved for like... 7-7.5s
You need to introduce some hyperbolic praise for such cases.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Giving Coal Miner's Daughter a watch this morning. Very enjoyable so far. I love Sissy Spacek.

I watched this again last night. I liked it significantly less this time. Felt much more shallow and empty. Still pretty well made, but flawed. 6.87/10.tree_ wrote:Woman of the Hour. Pretty dang good. 8.5/10.

I watched the new Almodovar movie last night. Kinda had to power through the first 40 minutes, but I ended up liking it. Like every English-language Almodovar movie, the dialogue sounds like it was translated verbatim from Spanish, so it's stilted to all hell.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Watched this on the flight home from Scotland this weekend. The movie was good, especially the scenery, but that montage at the end was very disjointed and weird. So that was a preview montage or was it a summary of what happened after the "ending" and prior to part two? That was really weird.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Costner claims it's still getting a theatrical release but no date is confirmed.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Have they announced what they are doing with 2? Stellar cast and everyone brings it, and the Montana/Wyoming scenery is stunningly gorgeous. Haven't seen that kind of imagery in a movie in a long time.

Yeah it's good. I mean it's basically Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton talking to each other for two hours.

It is his first full-length thing, but he's made some English language short films. Like that one with Pedro Pascal

Giving The Birdman of Alcatraz a watch this afternoon. I love frankenheimer and Lancaster, so this should be a home run.

The Raven.
Been reading some Poe lately so I thought I would check it out. I thought it was...fine. Not as bad as people made it out to be. Pale Blue Eye is a bit better.
Crimson Peak
Jesus this was horrible. Ugly, cheap, not scary, badly written, terrible pacing, boring as all heck...Del Toro kinda sucks sometimes.
Doctor Sleep
Kinda good. Not a fan of Stephen King and this felt like another Stephen King movie, but it was alright for a dumb little Stephen King movie.

I don't recall hearing about this, so I just looked it up. The first part of the description I saw was enough along with your review not to watch it:BurtReynolds wrote: Crimson Peak

Crimson Peak is a 2015 gothic romance film
