Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
The records from that widow came to me today. Five boxes of LPs all in really good condition. Mostly best selling titles, but man is this going to be fun.
There was a bonus box I was unaware of, containing 45s and eight tracks. The very top of the box was a Kinky Friedmann 8-track. Somebody's going to enjoy that.
As luck would have it, one of the bar regulars at my restaurant mentioned to me that her sister runs auctions, so I may be able to get some movement going for some of these titles.
Stay tuned. This is going to be a long labor of love.

My Metallica S&M has 3 labels on one of the records, one of which is over the grooves. Any ideas how to remedy this? If I cut that off-center one with a razor blade, will it lift off?

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I'm no expert, but nah, those last few grooves are screwed, even if the label lifts off.Simple Torture wrote:No return/exchange option?B wrote:My Metallica S&M has 3 labels on one of the records, one of which is over the grooves. They'll more than likely play the sound, but the needle would collect the adhesive residue.

No. I bought it used at an out-of-state store, that's four or five hours away. I'm sure they take the return if I were willing to take it back there.Simple Torture wrote:No return/exchange option?B wrote:My Metallica S&M has 3 labels on one of the records, one of which is over the grooves. It's not a huge listening problem cuz it just makes a hiss sound as the last song is fading out. I doubt that's any better for the styllus than the residue.
There's no way I'll ever remember to stop that side of the record before it hits the label.

What you can do to get that label and any potential residue off us stick the record in the microwave for 30-40 seconds on full power, and BAM! Sticker will come off with the residue
You can thank me later

I haven’t purchased a record in months. I think the last was Dark Matter, pretty much out of obligation.
Is this a long break, or is the thrill gone?

Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
Second time in a month that I got bit in the ass. I bought a copy of Lazaretto at a record show.
The record looks pristine, but the first track skips right way and won't play. So I dropped the needle on the second track, and I can't figure out what the music is, but it absolutely NOT Lazaretto. And then that started skipping.
Side B plays fine.
I always enjoy hitting record shows, or record stores when I'm out of town, but I'm going to have to stop doing that for a while. Because now I got stuck with two problem records that I can't even return.
Since my favorite record store in town in shutting down, I guess I'm all Amazon for a while.

Lazaretto is the "Ultra Vinyl" right? The one with all the hidden secrets?B wrote:Second time in a month that I got bit in the ass. I bought a copy of Lazaretto at a record show.

I remember mine playing fine, but not at first, I had to watch this thing:
