If you think Sigur Ros counts, Sigur Ros counts.zeb wrote:Does Sigur Ros count?

alright so this seems to be the right place to post a couple ambassadors of Québec's (sort of) traditionnal music:
Alain Lamontagne - a harmonica virtuoso and also a podorythmist

Sure. I love salsa, mambo, bachata and the like. Merengue, too, to a lesser extent. Also some kinds of cumbia (original Colombian cumbia, not the shitty synthesized modern version).harmless wrote:Thread is fucked, someone post some world music![]()
Jorge, would you be offended if I put some timbales and congas in here? South America is kind of 'world' for me.
Here's "Pedro Navaja", the "Stairway to Heaven" of salsa music.

Also this.
I also have a soft spot for vallenato, but I reckon that's just from growing up in the coast of Colombia.

I quite enjoy this album. Unfortunately, I've not really made any effort to get deeper into MPB than this release. I've tracked down a few other Nascimento songs, but none have measured up to the wealth of stuff on Clube da Esquina.

I'm pretty ignorant on the genre, specially because a TON of music gets dumped into the "World Music" category.
I do love me some Caetano Veloso any day of the year, and the man should have his own thread as he is pretty versatile covering ground anywhere from Samba to Bossa Nova, and from Bolero to Calypso.
Anyway he's featured nicely in this Brazil Classics compilation curated by David Byrne, I scored the standard vinyl last year and its in heavy rotation, well worth a listen.
