Overall... Brady still has the best overall career we've ever seen. And he has the head to head over Mahomes. I'd still take Mahomes, though. I think when his career is over, assuming he stays relatively healthy, it won't really be a contest when it's said and done.
Until Lamar wins a clutch game that matters, he doesn't belong in the conversation. So, I'd say Mahomes is way closer to Brady than Lamar is to Mahomes.
If KC three-peats, I'm not sure he doesn't surpass Brady then and there. And if they go undefeated to do it...?
Patrick is great. I’m a fan. This is a crazy take, though. In what world does 4 surpass 7?
I agree that it won’t be close when it’s all said and done. If the over/under on Mahomes’ future Super Bowl wins was one, I’d take the under. This year’s team reminds me of the Vikings two years ago that won all those one score games. I don’t think the Chiefs win the AFC this year. And the window is closing on Kelce. Reed, too, won’t be there much longer. A guy who plays like Mahomes is likely to suffer an injury that will have lingering effects. He’s so great, but Rodgers was so great after he won one and he never got back. Marino never got back. If Mahomes wins another, it will be like Peyton in Denver or Flacco in Baltimore. It won’t be because of his greatness.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
This is insane. Mahomes doesn't have the eye popping stats but he makes 4-5 plays a game that only he (and maybe 1-2) active QBs can make. His 3rd and long conversion rate is elite. He delivers in countless clutch moments. People hate the Chiefs, I get it, but he's the best there is right now. This isn't Jared Goff.daft twat wrote:epilogue wrote:If we're taking athleticism, Brady isn't close to either Mahomes or Lamar.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
We have to stop thinking that number of rings is the definitive (or even primary) metric.
Take everything MD said and add it to everything Mahomes has done in his career SO FAR. Remember, he's 29. As a starter, he's never not played in the AFC Championship game. He won two Super Bowls without a top 15 defense. He only had Hill for one SB. His only consistent elite weapon has been Kelce.
No one has ever won three in a row. That's history. I didn't give a shit about seven verses four in the complete context of who Mahomes is and what he's achieved, especially if 3 of those 4 are back to back to back.
Compare the first seven years of Brady's career to the first seven of Mahomes's. Pat is outpacing him in just about every meaningful metric and statistic. I already think a real argument can be made that Pat is the best athlete, the best mind, we've ever seen play the position. Now, to be clear, because it's a team game, he's still really young, and rings aren't nothing, Brady is still the GOAT. As I said before, he's had the greatest career we've ever seen. But he also played 20 YEARS longer than Mahomes has so far.
And how many rings do you think he has, DT? Peyton in Denver? Flacco? You know that Mahomes has played in 6 straight AFC Championships right? You know that he's played in 4 SBs and won 3 of them right? He's one ring away from tying Bradshaw and Montana. And he isn't even 30 yet.
KC isn't just getting lucky this year. They are probably the best coached team in the league. They know how to win. Despite tremendous injuries to the offense. Every phase has won a game this year: offense, defense and special teams. That isn't luck. That isn't an accident. They are prepared and battle tested. They get every teams absolute best shot week in and week out, and they find ways to win. And they've done it while also staying fairly young. It's a remarkable and special thing to witness. Something, I for one, won't take for granted.
It won't last forever, but it also doesn't look like it's falling apart any time soon. Losing Kelce will be big. Losing Reid will be huge. But that might still be five or six he's away.
For me, it won't take number of rings for Pat to surpass Brady. Just like I wouldn't say it will four runs for Brady to surpass Montana. The 3-peat just seals the deal earlier than expected. Especially if they go undefeated to do it. Because that is history. That is legacy. That is greatness.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
I’m not talking about what he’s done. I agree he has been elite. I’m talking about if he wins another. I just don’t think they’re winning this year. I think the Lions and Ravens are better and half of the playoff teams will be at least capable of beating them, and they’re all going to be gunning for them. I think your 30s are different than your 20s, especially for a guy who counts on scrambling to make so many impossible plays happen, and there are a lot of young qbs on good teams or on teams maybe missing a piece or two that will step up and win. Goff and Lamar both seem poised to win now or soon. Stroud and Jayden are young, but I think they’ve got the goods. Burrow might be the best right now, but they need defensive help. Baker is my favorite. Great Josh Allen is scary when he shows up. I know I’m forgetting others and others will show up. It’s hard to win. What Mahomes and Reid have done is remarkable. What I think made Brady special was how the team changed around him and he stayed great for two decades. Patrick has done that so far with Wide outs. Can he do it another 10 years? I’m sure we’ll all be around to visit this discussion then.Monkey_Driven wrote:This is insane.
