Re: What movies are you watching?
I rewatched 12 Monkeys a few years back and found the use of fisheye or whatever camera fuckery to be distracting. I must have been smoking the good stuff to be in love with that movie in my late teens. It's pretty good but definitely stops short of "great".
Still, some excellent performances.

Young Guns. The beginning of this is pretty silly, but it's solid. Billy The Kid is really a deranged narcissist and terrible leader in this. It's interesting that they make little attempt to make him a good guy.
The Eagle (2011) - boy this one is just dogshit. I usually don't care much about historical accuracy, but this one is too stupid at times. Typical Hollywood hero with standard modern values. Boring as fuk. I do not like Channing Tatum.
Solomon Kane (2009) - For a cheap b-movie, this one is pretty competent. Knock off Hugh Jackman is good. Not enough budget to do more than kill a bunch of bald guys over and over, but it was fine.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Because Captain Tatum leading the boys out and going tetsudo formation like it's some kind of video game special move to rescue some dudes was the dumbest shit ever. That would usually make me laugh, but with this movie it's just lame. Way to castrate the bad guys as incompetent losers.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I love The Eagle. I'm fine with a movie being dumb as long as it's also prettyBurtReynolds wrote:Because Captain Tatum leading the boys out and going tetsudo formation like it's some kind of video game special move to rescue some dudes was the dumbest shit ever. It would have worked if they had to dodge some arrows or spears or something. But no, they just formed up like that just in case the savages can fly I guess?

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Oh man I love The Eagle. Mostly because it covers an area of the world and history that I really like, but also the cinematography. Get bent Burt!

I didn't like it when I saw it, but it's been a long time and I am generally pro-FuquaBurtReynolds wrote:What about King Arthur 2004? The Roman one.
