Re: Transgender Rights
Per John Oliver: The GOP spent $215 million on anti-trans ads. That's $134/trans person in the country.
I'm sure the backlash against trans women in sports was very organic.

Compared to the untold billions set on fire trying to mainstream it over the last 15 years, I'd say the GOP was pretty efficient.

maybe i am being too simple
but if there is a transgendered in your bathroom the only time you will come into contact with them is if you dont lock your stall and they open your door thinking it is empty or when you are washing your hands at the sink

That line never works when I argue that I should be allowed to use the women's crapper. It's always so much cleaner in there.Peeps wrote:maybe i am being too simple

You don't need to ban transgender people from bathrooms to prosecute that kid, regardless of whether it was a transgender girl or a boy.Bi_3 wrote:I would agree if this had not be the local story here for like 12 months:Peeps wrote:maybe i am being too simple

Re: Transgender Rights
But the message we should be uplifting is that a male could walk into a woman''s restroom and rape a woman; a woman could walk into a women's restroom and assault a woman. Trans bans don't protect anyone. They ONLY discriminate.Bi_3 wrote:Oh for sure, I only point out that it’s not “it never happens”B wrote:You don't need to ban transgender people from bathrooms to prosecute that kid, regardless of whether it was a transgender girl or a boy.Bi_3 wrote:I would agree if this had not be the local story here for like 12 months:Peeps wrote:maybe i am being too simple

Re: Transgender Rights
Do you agree with self identification laws? They state that “a person's legal sex or gender is determined by their gender identity without any medical requirements.”
Where I live, that is the law. Any person can determine what sex they are at any given time or place and it must be respected.

I agree with self identification, but I can't find any evidence that any county or state implements that as allowing gender swaps at any time and any place.Matters wrote:Do you agree with self identification laws? Even if that were the case, bathroom bans remain unnecessary to prosecute assault, rape, or whatever the legal term for peeping Tom is.

Re: Transgender Rights
The counter argument, and I am not saying I support this, is that it's not about trans people directly but about making women and girls feel safe when they are at their most vulnerable, particularly those who have be victimized by men in the past as the bans do not exclude only trans people but all cis-men as well. I have no idea what the viable solution to all this is other than the open, multi-gender bathrooms we've discussed in the past.B wrote:But the message we should be uplifting is that a male could walk into a woman''s restroom and rape a woman; a woman could walk into a women's restroom and assault a woman. Very nice infrastructure improvements aside ...Bi_3 wrote:The counter argument, and I am not saying I support this, is that it's not about trans people directly but about making women and girls feel safe when they are at their most vulnerable, particularly those who have be victimized by men in the past as the bans do not exclude only trans people but all cis-men as well. If that's the counter argument, is there any solution that allows society to function? If a woman fears transwomen because a man abused her, does her trauma stop at the bathroom door? Would she advocate for removal of men and transwomen from the classroom? What about the college dorm room? Restaurants? Parks?
I'm not belittling the trauma of abuse, but if protecting women from trauma is the only priority, we need to reorganize society, not just bathrooms and laws restricting trans individuals from existing.
Maybe we start with not making rapists President, Cabinet Members, and Supreme Court Justices.

Re: Transgender Rights
Or we could just not remake all of society for the benefit of a miniscule percent of the population that probably isn't harmed at all by bathrooms staying as they are.Bi_3 wrote:The counter argument, and I am not saying I support this, is that it's not about trans people directly but about making women and girls feel safe when they are at their most vulnerable, particularly those who have be victimized by men in the past as the bans do not exclude only trans people but all cis-men as well. Re: Transgender Rights
Yeah you're right. Someone complained. Now we have to reorder society, recondition ourselves and how we interact, and squander time and resources on idiotic social engineering projects like remaking bathrooms, to the extremely dubious benefit of no one but a tiny group of people. All because your empathy has been hijacked and you can only act by feeling rather than logic.
