Last night it didn't as there was a long pause there anyway. Ed spoke about someone name Wes who had recently passed. Had tickets to this show. Then spoke about being the father of a daughter and being heartbroken over the two girls in Laos. One young girl died and another is fighting for her life. Methanol poisoning. Ed had read about it in the paper. Said it can't be pointless if the whole crowd is thinking of them at once.
Heartfelt performance by the band. Crowd got into as well. Ed asked everyone to light a candle so you had all the phone lights up.

Comeback is pretty low on the list songs I wanted to hear live again but they did it well. The transition into afterwards Stevie >Solat>Running was fine though. Sort of gave a step up in intensity each song.
But as it is will dream of her tonight..

So four shows so far and

4 X Alive
4 x RITFW
4 X Given to Fly - in exact same spot.
4 X DTE
4 x Dark Matter
4 x Wreckage
4 x Even Flow

So about 1/4 of the setlist set in stone. Not really changing much in terms of placement either. I will say though they all seem to get a good response every damn time. Dark Matter is the new song which seems to get the best response.

Ed spoke about Bugs - asked if we wanted to hear that and got a pretty big cheer in response. But he said he'd have to go find an accordion in an pawn shop. He then spoke about Olympic Platinum. Another song that got a mention was Sad - I wouldn't be surprised if that comes out tomorrow night.

Ten has almost been played in full - think just need oceans. Vs and Vitalogy getting a decent run with probably half of both played.
So far Ed has been chucking in at least 5 songs each night not played in Aus this time around.
But as it is will dream of her tonight..

A story with some of Ed's speech about the Laos victims:

https://www.smh.com.au/national/pearl-j ... 5ksq5.html

SOLAT was an instinctive addition - nothing cut for it. When Black was played as a request I turned to LMS and said "I bet that was our Setting Sun getting scrapped". Turns out it was Upper Hand:

Hope you enjoyed the show from the rail brisjam

A really high energy show and pleasing setlist - so happy I got my white whale with Release (Sorry Varis! You got your Light Years ;) )

Other highlights that come to mind are:

- The drone footage over the Blue Mountains and Bondi for GTF (dedicated to a recently lost fan the band got a heaps of requests about - really great version).
- Insane solo on Black. After Ed went over and sang the 'We Belong Together' directly to and about Mike :)
- Early Even Flow (pleasant surprise rather than mid-set apathy)
- Indifference (another nice surprise)
- It's Ok (what have got you against it Spenno?!) Was a bit weird knowing it was coming though as Ed announced it as a request before Daughter began.
- Sonic Reducer (though seemed to fall flat for all but the 10C crowd)
- Really strong version of Jeremy, Ed visibly moved

Crowd was in fine voice which Ed picked up on early - hope it comes through on the boot.

Ed was very chatty throughout. The guy requesting Vitalogy in full got a mention too. He also had a sign for Satan's Bed so probably now realises it's not gonna happen. Would definitely welcome that and/or Immortality which I haven't seen and hasn't been played yet this tour. Fingers crossed for DOTC (or any Gigaton for that matter) and Setting Sun for Saturday :peace:

Great to catch up with LMS after a decade - hope the drive back north was smooth

Glad you came through with some extra info.
Sonic Reducer was a ripping version. Don't really care if not many in the crowd know it haha.
Being where we were my missus got a great view all night. Ed and Mike got up close a few times. Downside is I could only see Cameron on the big screen. Other advantage is you can get a drink of water easy. Downside is when they come over that way all the "I want something" people are pretty fucking annoying. This is the first tour where this me, me, me shit has been everywhere. I assume it happened in the rest of the tour as well.
Tomorrow night I plan to go in a bit later so will probably hang at the back of the Golden Circle area.

You are bang on about response to Jeremy. I've been surprised at how the band has responded to the crowds on some classic songs. I would have thought that would be common response everywhere.

Sounds like you had a great night too!
One to come!

Great to catch up with Ridley again. Between us we have 3 more humans since the last PJ tour which was nearly 11 years ago. Crazy amount of time. The US and Europe guys are pretty damn lucky.

Not much to add that the boys haven't said except the band were ON. All of them were so invested compared to 2014.

Release to open was awesome - Ridley had mentioned it was all he wanted so much. Electric.

Twice Jeff had the standup bass out and I thought NAIS was coming out but it wasn't to be.

Ed had a moment with his guitar tech, just being a dick. (Frank Black had issues early too with incorrectly tuned guitars. They tanked, played mostly new stuff and visibly were pissed. Cut their set short. A mate I went with who has seen them 40+ said it was the worst Pixies show he's seen).

It would have been great to see Upper Hand but swapping it for Black was the right choice for the gig.

And I won't be there so early on Saturday. It's going to be hotter and I'm feeling it today. Pulled into my drive at 2:30.

yeah Release is a wonderful opener always, and the 1-2 punch of that one and Go is just the best way to start a live show.

Did Jeff played the upright bass?

Jeremy hit me hard last night. So did Come Back. Ed's words about the news from Vang Vieng brought back my experience there and the fragility of life.

Very emotive performance from the band. Jeremy was pretty good in Melbourne as well.

Have a tough time in Vang Vieng?
I know there has been a few tourists get into trouble, or worse lose their lives, there recently

My wife and I had some special shakes expecting just weed and mushies but our guesthouse said that place also used opium as well. We got the trifecta. Our happy holiday and move across the world hit a doom wall with those shakes. We both felt afterwards as if we had cloud, a weight on us and that we'd made the wrong choice. It was very down for a few weeks.

It's a loose town, many die tubing or with the buckets. Unfortunately. It is however a beautiful spot.

Holy shit. I get the guilts just having a McDonalds vanilla thickshake. Can't imagine what that would have been like.

Glad you are both through it 'sleep. Fragility of life indeed.
