the Wicked musical is my favourite thing ever of all time in historyepilogue wrote:The first Wicked book is outstanding.wease wrote:I’ve read maybe half, maybe more than half of the original Baum series, but no, I’ve not read the Wicked book.epilogue wrote:Did you ever read the book?wease wrote:We’re going to the movies on Thanksgiving. Love the book. Not nuts for the musical on stage -- some amazing themes but not sure it totally works. But I've loved what Chu has done so far and the Cynthia Erivo is a fucking goddess! So, we'll see. I have medium expectations, but it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I'm looking forward to it.
The film adaptation of the musical is wonderful! I like it more than the stage version. Partly because of the exceptional cast, and partly because of the extra time spent weaving in stuff from the novel that the stage show doesn't have time for.
This movie is fantastic. I could go on forever about what I liked and disliked but I imagine no one here cares.
Highly recommend.
I'm seeing the movie tonight, I'll report back! I'm going in full witch bitch cosplay

I'm seeing it this weekend. I don't expect it to be great, but I expect to have a good time.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I won’t be watching both movies. Gladiator 2 I’ll watch it maybe on Stremio and I don’t see myself watching Wicked in my life. ( maybe on a plane )

I'm psyched for Gladiator II. All I needed to see was sharks in the colosseum and I was sold hard. I never do theaters anymore, but my friend is coming in for Thanksgiving and he wants to see it so we'll probably go.

Apparently that's historically accurate too

I'm with ya. Ridley tends to vigorously defend even the most mad aspects of his movies as historically accurate, though, so it's kind of funny to poke at ittommy wrote:Entertainment > Historical accuracy

Yet another insult to the glory of the Roman empire. I will not be watching.

I really hope you love it as much (or more!) than I did! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Especially since you're a huge fan of the stage musical. Be very interested to see what you think.

Gladiator II would be better with an actually charismatic protagonist
