Re: Spotify Wrapped
I have the fewest unique artists of anyone and it's eating me up. Not a lot of playlists/autoplay radio this year. Just hammering an album into the ground before moving onto the next.

Yeah, Lastfm is cool. It tracks my Spotify plays, my Sonos plays and everything I play through foobar.Jorge wrote:No, it integrates with your digital media player(s). So you can listen to your FLAC collection or your CDs, and as long as you do it through an app that supports Last.fm scrobbling it'll capture it. I have mine hooked up to my Spotify and TIDAL, and it also captures whenever I stream on Bandcamp, YouTube music, or I play my collection on iTunes. The only thing I listen to that it can't track is vinyl records, though I'm sure there are ways around that.
But as per usual, because of my wife's obsession with listening to rainforrest meditation music every night to sleep, my wrapped is fully fucked up.
Spotify literally recommends me a "cat calming music" playlist on the reg.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
I’m the same. The only Taylor Swift I really listened to this year was Folklore. I found her new album a snore fest. Also, it’s hard not to get fatigued when she’s been everywhere the last three years.VinylGuy wrote:I see yeah. I barely listened to her because she want even in the top 20. Beyonce was 15th which also seems very weird but at least i listened to her album a few times.epilogue wrote:I sought out the new record and listened to it a couple of times. But by and large, I didn't really care much this year either. The issue is that she's on every goddamn Spotify playlist! When I'm at work I usually just throw on something Spotify curated so I don't have to think about it or offend other co-workers.VinylGuy wrote:epilogue wrote:79,272 minutes listened this year (top 2% of listeners worldwide, apparently)
4,541 songs. Top song, Dark Matter by Pearl Jam, streamed 77 times.
Top Songs:
1. Dark Matter (Pearl Jam)
2. Broken Man (St. Vincent)
3. Burial Ground (The Decemberists)
4. Houdini (Dua Lipa)
5. Wake To Flowers (TORRES)
Top Artists:
1. Taylor Swift (this feels rigged)
2. St. Vincent
3. Pearl Jam
4. The Decemberists
5. Chappell Roan
35,427 minutes listening to podcasts
Feb: Pumpkin Spice Rock Out Grunge phase
Mar: Indie Sleaze Metropopolis Art Pop season
Aug: Sweater Weather Softcore Art Deco moment
1,268 artists listened to.
I was surprised Tay Tay wasnt even in my top 20. Seems i really didnt care about her this year.
But honestly, Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo and Last Dinner Party and Beyonce were all on all of those playlists, too. And I sought out their respective records way more than Taylor's. So... I something stinks!

The new album is more of a snorefest than Folklore?!

I've tried but she refuses to accept the invite. She's quite the techno spaz.Jorge wrote:Get her an account of her own on your family plan?
The issue is its my Spotify account attached to the Google Puck in the bedroom that she uses. The damage is well and truly done though, so now I just complain about it a lot without actively doing anything to make the situation better.

I listen to a lot of soundtracks, compilations and playlists, so my Spotify Wrapped says I listened to over 1800 artists, but I only go in deep on a few of them

I get that Spotify Wrapped is basically just an app usage report designed for quick sharing to generate fun discussion (frankly I wish I had the same data for myself, but I use Amazon Music), and even as people share they can clearly see its limitations. But nevertheless I find it an interesting study in how streaming has changed how people think about their listening habits. Pre-streaming, if someone were to ask me how many different artists I listened to in a given year, assuming I had some ability to know this, I don’t think I would ever think to include the kinds of incidental things that popped up once on a playlist while I was only half-paying attention, or to increase my unique artists count by 1 because I heard two-thirds of a Maggie Rogers song at a Starbucks back in February. But that is really the level of passive engagement that drives (and is rewarded by) these numbers. I am curious how people would break down their stats — how many of those unique artists were intentionally sought out and listened to with some level of focus, and how many of them were cycled through on a playlist that was playing at an inaudible volume in the background during a work call? Not being critical of anyone’s listening style — genuinely just interested.

My personal (not Spotify) list of albums I've listened to so far this year is 83. A couple of those are the same artist, so let's call it 80. There are probably half a dozen other artists that I looked into by recommendation. Usually only listening to one or two songs, not an entire album. If I'm being liberal about it, let's say there is another dozen that I sought for whatever reason. We're talking like 110 artis, tops, that I actively sought out intentionally and listened to with some level of focus. The rest was a result of Spotify made playlists that I put on while I'm at work or playing Madden or something.
TL;DR: 110 out of 1,268 artists were intentionally sought out and listened to with focus.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
I'm curious how Spotify counts a listen. Do you have to listen to the whole song? Do you just have to start it for it to count?
