for as many times as we've asked him, tweedy's never acknowledged actually recording the song as they played it live prior to AGIB.tragabigzanda wrote:Track list is out there, it has at least two other versionsChris_H_2 wrote:Oh please, please, please let this have the original recording of spiders.

Re: wilco
Is this going to cost a million dollars? I'd be very interested because I think this is their best record by a country(rock) mile. But I don't have a record player and I'd have a hard time shelling over hundreds of dollars for something I'd be able to enjoy a percentage of.
edit: now I see there are CD only formats. But the cost is pretty steep. Would love to read the book, though. This is the period in Wilco's career that would be most interesting to know about because the old Wilco was dead (at Jay Bennet's firing) and the new Wilco hadn't been hired yet. It's kind of like the period between Roskilde and Riot Act that I wish the PJ20 book had more depth on.

Re: wilco
What does the version of spiders that you're excited about sound like, Chris?

Re: wilco
it sounds like a full-band version of tweedy's solo playings (so more poppy, and less kraut-rock inspired). they used to have a show from 2002 when they played it live like it on the youtubes, but i can't find it.washing machine wrote:What does the version of spiders that you're excited about sound like, Chris?
Edit: this is somewhat similar:

Seeing them tonight. They’ve been playing two sets and an encore. 30+ songs per show, no repeats in each city.

Re: wilco
this was good. set one was *mostly* acoustic - Jeff played acoustic, anyway. set two he played electric. I was happy to get Handshake Drugs. Overall, a good mix of their material. I liked how they added the coda of Many Worlds at the end of Via Chicago. They jammed a lot; something I don't recall them doing back when I saw them touring Sky Blue Sky. I'm not mad about it. Some of the jams were Crazy Horse-esque.dad wrote:Seeing them tonight. They’ve been playing two sets and an encore. 30+ songs per show, no repeats in each city.

I can't decide which one I like more - Nels or Glen. They're fun to watch.
- Spoiler: show

Re: wilco
Saw them tonight in St. Paul.
Left halfway through. I'm off this band and that really made me sad.
Everyone is gushing about three hour shows. Lol. Guess what ? There's a thirty minute set break.
Whatever. Fine.
Unforgivable : spiders is not a lazy tired acoustic boring country twang song that drifts aimlessly
God. Sorry everybody. I know some love current Wilco but this band is tired and bored. No reason for three guitarists. The music lacks any and all tension or release so when nels does his...thing....it's just fucking weird and flat. He just makes a ton of noise while the band quietly strums behind. Nothing is earned.
Really bad. This hurts me too. I was really hoping the live show would still kill but it ain't for me.
Yikes. I guess this must be what a majority of RM feels about Pearl Jam.
