The worst feeling? Being hunted by Night Folk and not even knowing it until you turn around. :censored:

I was worried I'd have trouble getting back into it, it's very chill and slow compared to what I've been playing lately but I'm now officially ensconced in its world again
I'm in the exact same place right now. I've been going hard on a bunch of FromSoft games lately so I wanted a cozy game to relax to and i'd been seeing a lot of RDR2 things in my social feeds that awoke the nostalgia for the game. I'd logged about 200 hours but haven't touched the game since 2019. It does take some getting used to the pace after Sekiro, but i'm managing. I just did a mission that took me pretty far from the first camp, and then I got sidetracked on a stranger quest that took me even further and now i'm spending 20 minutes galloping across a good chunk of the map to get back to camp
I think I've yet to use the fast travel option in this game; it's so gorgeous and fulfilling to ride through that it feels like a crime to use. Not to mention the any number of side quests you could stumble on. I've gotten so much into this again that I just bought the PS4 version of RDR1 (on sale). Been well over a decade since my last RDR1 outing.

I don't think I ever fast travelled.

I ought to go back and get a 100% on this game.

Just started this today. Finished the prologue. I must’ve played RDR1…10 years ago? But most of the mechanics, so far, are easy to slip back into.

I'll go ahead and assume that you're well into a 48 hour RDR2 marathon session, ST.

I only have time for like 1-2 missions per day, I don't do marathon sessions like I used to. I've got a nice start and am in the second chapter, but with the kids starting vacation tomorrow, it'll be slow going for the next few weeks.

I never realized I could donate so much of my loot to the fences. I made around $700 last night just selling a bunch of random shit to the fence at Emerald Ranch. I gave the camp a very small cut. Very small

Tell me the truth: Will RDR2 be released on Nintendo Switch 2?

If it wasn't released on PS5 or XSX, then probably not. Switch 2 will be roughly as powerful as a PS4.

Just started this today. Really really slow start. My kids warned me about it and they both love the game.

The hard part of starting any game for me is not knowing the play controls. It is especially hard because I don’t have the buttons on the PS4 controller memorized and I typically play in a dark room. Once this week is over, it will only be a weekend thing for me as well.

Looking forward to playing this through mid-March.

Spend time talking to the people in your camp and doing errands for them. It really pays off.

Thanks for the tip. I’m struggling with this game. Part of it is because I just did Last of Us 2 and that game’s run button is this game’s pull up the weapon selection, and part of it is because I’m overwhelmed by the freedom and scope.

I went with Hosea to kill a bear. I shot that fucker a dozen times and it still ate me. I was then placed near the area, the bear was gone, and I stumbled upon a woman trapped under a horse. I freed her and rode her to a town 5 minutes away. She ran away from me and I accidentally hit a wrong button and choked a lawman. I then had a bounty on me. I died almost immediately. Spent 15 minutes riding back to home base. I feel completely rudderless.

I think a major issue for me is going to be never feeling like I know where I am because it all is the same ecosystem. With Zelda: TotK, there are enough landmarks and distinct environs that I never felt lost. It also didn’t hurt that I had aerial views of the landscape all the time.

You'll get there.

I punched my horse on maybe ten occasions before I committed the "ride horse" button to memory.

Yeah I can attest to all of this, it does take time adapt to all of the controls/commands, but once you do it's really quite an engrossing game (probably one of the most engrossing games I've played). I also played through the Last of Us Part II (as well as Astrobot) before diving back into RDR2 after not playing it for about 5 years. The pace and controls did take some adjustment but once I got into the first part of Chapter 2, I was golden again (and I'm admittedly a rather novice/unskilled gamer).

Side note/in real life, a few months ago I lost my beloved dog to cancer. Anyone who's had the privilege of a dog's companionship will understand how hard it is to lose them. The level of escapism this game brings to the table is really what drew me into doing a second, much slower, play through. It's helped fill some of the utterly painful evening silence in the house since my girl's passing. The sheer scale and beauty and it's ability to fully engross you (aside from the occasional control/wrong button blunders) is really quite amazing. Just riding through a valley from one town to another is enough to get me hooked in; I can easily play for a few hours and it'll only feel like a few minutes have gone by.

Sorry about your dog. That is great that a game can provide an escape/distraction.

I think this one is just not for me for several reasons:

My biggest issue is I’m dying constantly. It’d be one thing if it were just during missions I was intentionally engaging in, but I’m either getting jumped or I can’t get to the post office fast enough before the bounty hunters get me. I’m so sick of seeing the sky and being down $15 dollars when I wake up.

I don’t like Arthur. He’s a shit bag. I’ll save a woman from being kidnapped or a man from a snakebite on my own, but then the missions have me beating the shit out of in debt farmers or killing 20 men to free another shit bag from prison. I’d like to be able to be a good guy who is occasionally forced to do bad things and generally to bad people.

The minutia of it all is annoying. I don’t want to have to clean my gun, shave my face, pick tobacco, eat some beans, brush my horse, and make a meal with ingredients. That’s the sort of thing I want to escape from by playing video games.

And the amount of time spent galloping from one end of the map to the other. It’s an incredible achievement, this map, but Christ, can’t they have you explore it a little at a time?

I can see why people love this, but I think I’m going to play Zelda:Echoes instead. Hopefully Princess Zelda’s ovulations don’t need to be tended to and she doesn’t kill a bunch of poor Hylians for rupees.
