12/31 has been the top rated show at .net for quite some time, 12/30 is #10. I haven't listened in a while, probably when I was burning those discs so I am due to revisit after some '99 shows. They definitely pulled off that second set in grand fashion but I think of the Baker's Dozen and that is still mind blowing to me.Simple Torture wrote:I’ve always been surprised that Big Cypress has never gotten an official release, and I’ve never taken the time to track down a bootleg. What’s the general consensus on that show? Worth a listen or overly bloated or something in between?

I listened to the Baker’s Dozen during all-nighters as I finished my dissertation, it was a welcome companion.

I had some phish on while I was doing chores yesterday and those crunchy organ jams made my wife ask if I was on hold with someone.

Phish is weird for me. I detest half of what they do, but really like the rest. Also, sometimes Trey makes me wanna put all my gear in a pile, cover it with gas, and watch it burn. Shred with taste is rare.

I weirdly love their studio albums for the most part, and also love the love output. But I have never seen them live and will probably never get to (I have seen Trey Anastasio Band and Oysterhead though).

With your appreciation of music and specifically live music, you've got to make it a point to see them live. It'll be worth it.liebzz wrote:I weirdly love their studio albums for the most part, and also love the love output. I've seen Trey a few times with TAB and it was great, but nowhere near the place Phish will take you.

They very much are a band that has had legit musical 'eras' along with their two hiatus periods. There are definitely moments especially early on where I can take or leave a lot but forty years is a long damn time. I have really gravitated toward the last five or so years as I have really enjoyed their new output and live they seem so incredibly locked in.Self wrote:Phish is weird for me. Trey's voice and the fun-time they seemed to be having on stage was a big hurdle for me and still can be as I stated earlier but these days I feel there is more creative and engaging jamming that it can more than balance out. The secret set at Mondegreen last year is absolutely stellar, in case I hadn't mentioned that numerous times in this thread yet.
I did start going through the LivePhish releases as my first listen of the day this week. I am going in release order but am looking forward to the first few 'year' releases as the time between said hiatus are a bit of a blind spot for me.

I thought about this post yesterday when listening to a boot. These guys can really go off for a set and then end it with something like Harpua which totally turns me off.Self wrote:Phish is weird for me. I detest half of what they do, but really like the rest. Bathtub Gin is probably my favorite phish song. The lyrics are better than most of their songs. They're vaguely Dylan-esque. The angular guitar riff is a really good anchor for what follows, which is pretty out there.

Turned on 4/18 when I got home and really enjoyed the first set... Blaze On is a great start to the second, fifteen songs and 3 hours I felt this one might hit... it sure as hell has.
