Re: Arcade Fire
I know what you mean. It packs a similar punch to that guitar line in "Power Out" on Funeral.

This is what happens when you solicit an opinion from someone who doesn't like songs over 3:00, on an album where the songs are all over 5:00.

Re: Arcade Fire
It can be simplified further by stating that he still likes Pearl Jam. Nothing to see here, folks.

I still like Pearl Jam. I also enjoy Stip's writing, lyrical interpretations and enthusiasm. But I also recognize that he incorectly doesn't like songs to have any length, or jams, or space, or anything that isn't concise. So I don't see him liking Arcade Fire despite their obvious eliteness.

Thus far there are musical elements in pretty much all the songs I like quite a bit, but these nice little moments keep getting bulldozed by heavy handed self important passages and musical choices I don't like.

This was a wonderful mess of a record. I can't place it in their catalog yet in terms of what I like best, but they really pulled it off.

to stick with the pearl jam theme, Infallible is my favorite song on that record, and it clocks in at 5 minutes.
I also like Tool.
And Reflektor, for 5 minutes, anyway, was quite good.
So it's not the length, necessarily.
Really it's the vocals more than anything else.
