Pearl Jam - Vitalogy (Demos & Sessions)

Post by Hypnos »

Image

To commemorate these 30 years of Vitalogy, and since no one has done anything yet with those leaked cockage files (I hope I'm not ruining anyone's plans for a project), I took the liberty of putting together this little comp, mostly just to have something new to listen to and talk about. I'm not an audiophile, so everything is in mp3. Hope you enjoy it.

Update: Don´t worry mods, there´s nothing to fear here.

Tracklist:

01. Guitar Effect #2
02. Whipping (Vs. Sessions)
03. Nothingman (Demo)
04. Tremor Christ (Alt. Vocals)
05. Trilly Dilly Ballad (Hard to Imagine Demo)*
06. Corduroy (Alt Take)
07. Not For You (Acoustic - Live at Bridge School 94)
08. Immortality (Original Vocals)**
09. Betterman (Early Studio Rehearsal & chat)*
10. Stupid Mop (without vocals)**

*AI enhanced
**AI edit

Thanks for sharing Hypnos - great job!

Vs and Vitalogy are the only pre-Backspacer albums I haven't given the 'Deluxe' treatment yet, mainly because I'm waiting for the rest of the cockage tapes to drip out (but I won't hold my breath).

Thank you! Just have to ask do we know where the Immortality is from? Is it from the Pearl Jam 4/1/94 cockage tape? It doesn't sound live (Boston 94).

Thanks!

It is from Boston. I just mixed the live vocals with the album's musical track.

Wow that's a great job! When I got to the ending it matched Boston but otherwise you had me! Also the fade at the end was a nice touch! Thought I found one of the gems I have been wanting to hear from the collection.

Thank you for sharing!

I’m not sure if Stupid Mop without vocals is better or worse.

stupid mop sounds like the voice was simply removed with ai. and immortality sounds like the live version of the original lyrics vocals where placed over the studio cut. not sure these are real "rough mixes".

I agree re: Stupid Mop, but after sitting with it I like this version more. Although I guess the song title wouldn’t make sense without vocals :haha: I just never enjoyed the vocals on the track but the instrumentation creates a perfect atmosphere, especially as a closer to Vitalogy.

Well, that's exactly what it is.

It's not included in the link, but track 11 is a song we're not supposed to talk about.

I'm all for using modern tech to create transformative stuff. I think though that one of the tricky parts is going to be proper labelling. We're already at the point where an instrumental is almost impossible to distinguish between the AI generated one and the genuine original mix. .. certainly when done correctly anyways. If someone says, 'oh hey here's band X playing a rehearsal demo', do I know that is band X vs a cover band? You could say, ah, but the vocals are pretty obvious! Are they? I'm always fascinated when people discuss this stuff because there's so much guess work involved with saying that the drums really sound like this drummer and not that drummer. You have to really know the patterns and have the ear for it. Someday, maybe I'll be familliar enough to know the difference between Dave, Dave, or your other brother Dave. I gaffed this up yesterday cuz I said something was a song by Abbruzzese and my friend had to correct me that no, it was Kruzen. The story is both fascinating and not nearly as exciting as you'd think, so don't ask lol.

Anyway, the point of my thought splam is that we're going to have a real labelling problem in the years to come .. where people label it as one thing, when it's really not.
We're already having that problem. .. and no way it's going away .. but it's important to tag the process.

All the tracks in this compilation are properly tagged in parenthesis.

Wasn't saying otherwise, just seen way too much stuff recently that's not.

We really should be tagging AI usage, if AI must be used at all.
